Hi apologies if this has been asked before but i couldnt find the answer.
I have a 9.5 gen 3 giv energy battery with a 5kw gen 3 inverter. Whats the maximum charge and discharge rate from the battery to the grid. My understanding is it would be 5 due to the inverter but it only sees to charge at 3.6, also the setting on the app says i can set the charge and discharge up to 3.6.

The battery charge/discharge rate via the 5kWh gen 3 hybrid inverter, is an inverter limited 3.6kWh
Chips78 It is 3.6 - 5 is the the inverter's AC generation limit, but the battery interface is limited to 3.6. (Though with some firmwares it seems able to discharge slightly faster. And/or in cold weather the charging rate is further limited.)
The gen3 battery has a higher charge/discharge rate, but I'm not aware of any inverters to take advantage of that

70A charge (70A*51.2V = 3.584kW
80A discharge (80 * 51.2 = 4.096kW (and then conversion losses providing 3.6kW to the home/grid)
the Gen2 battery is 80A limited so matches well with the Gen3 inverters
Gen3 battery is <120A so about <6.15kW. maybe advantageous in cold weather when rate limited to 2/3 of 1/2 rate charging compared to the Gen2 battery

Thanks for the replies. So does this mean that even though i have a 5kw inverter my battery can never charge from either the grid or the panels at that rate? Currently its only charging at 3.48kw and dumping the rest out to the grid.

Chips78 Correct, the 5kW is the ability to put 5kW to the home/export grid from a combination of solar and battery.
Likewise, you could generate 8.5kW of solar and put 5kW to home/grid and the other 3.5kW into the battery at the same time...
