What is controlling my inverter?

I have no control over the settings on our inverter! I want to stay in Eco mode but somehow it keeps changing itself.

We were using Octopus Intelligent Flux over the winter and that was OK, but now that we can generate more we want to use it in the house rather than the battery sitting full and idle through the daytime. I changed our tariff to Octopus flux, thinking this meant that we could control when we import and export, and I set our inverter to 'Eco', and made sure import and export periods are disabled.

But our battery fills up from the grid during the night and exports in the evening, and when I look at the inverter settings, 'eco' is disabled. Many times I have re-enabled 'eco' on the inverter settings, at one point it did stay on eco mode for a few days, I thought I had sorted it, but then it started filling up during the night again.

I have reset to defaults and I updated the firmware the other day.

Reading through this forum, I have found the 'remote control' settings and have found that it is all being set by the API inverter settings (see image) - how do I get control of that?

In the octopus app, go to devices and disconnect your inverter.

1Gibbon I can't upload the image 🙁 but it shows lots of timed import, via 'API - Inverter Settings'

TX200 Thanks, in the Octopus app, devices, my battery is connected but not the inverter - unless it counts as the same thing?

1Gibbon yeah, probably counts as the same thing.

It is the same thing. One thing to note though, and I dont know how much you generate from solar and how much you use, but usually IOF is seen as a spring to autumn tariff with flux or economy 7 used over winter as IOF gives you favourable rates for export and parity on pricing so its more effective to use the grid rather than battery except for the 4-7pm window

Check that you really have changed from IOF to Flux.

In the app, gone to 'Usage' and you should be able to see your tariff. This will also show charge slots and should confirm that you are on Octopus Flux rather than IOF.

For more details, log into Octopus Energy on a computer, scroll down the Account page and you will see your Account listed.

It sounds as if IOF is still controlling your account, especially if you are seeing Inverter/battery in devices. If you are unsure, phone Octopus Energy support to get things sorted.
