Recently got a new iPad. It picked up apps from the cloud ok. On the new iPad I can’t get Home to work, when I scan for Inverter it doesn’t find it. The app still works perfectly on old iPad & iPhone.

I have tried

  • inputting the ip address from those but it doesn’t recognise it, puts up an exclamation.
  • looking in location services (Settings/Privacy/Location services) but the app doesn’t appear there.
  • reloaded the app from the store. Anyone any ideas to try please?
  • when I look into (iPad) settings/apps/Givenergy it doesn’t show local network

Any ideas welcome please?

idrobbo is the iPad definitely using WiFi, rather than mobile data?

DD yes it is. I’m wondering if the recent updated iPad version (18.4.1) needs an update to the Giv app.

idrobbo Its working fine on my ipad on 8.4.1

Go into settings / local monitoring / delete any saved IP addresses / scan for devices and hit + next to them

Close and restart the app

I just had to do that as I’d changed my network addresses. The app found the devices and was able to swap to local mode OK

Try setting your inverter IP in your router to always assign the same address, otherwise you might get the same issue again after router reboot/power cut etc

geoffreycoan thanks Geoffrey, tried that multiple times but no luck. Even put in The same ip the other devices use OK but it won’t accept them. It seems to be some sort of LAN issue for this device with this app.

SteveCook thanks Steve, will have to read up how to do that. I can access the router but never tried anything like that before.

are you on the same wifi network that the inverters are connected to? It has to be the same SSID otherwise home mode doesnt work

I

geoffreycoan Yes, only the 1 router. I just can’t fathom why it would be different, when I got the new iPad it just copied everything over automatically, everything else seems to work fine.

idrobbo do you have separate network names from your router for 5GhZ and 2.4GhZ? Some routers do this, your ipad would be on the 5 and the inverter on the 2.4

other idea, if you go to settings/apps/givenergy, does it have local access turned on? If its not showing as an option, uninstall and reinstall the app and it should prompt for local access

I

geoffreycoan thanks again Geoffrey. I’m not aware I have separate names (do you mean SSID?), never been an issue previously.

Local access doesn’t show in settings for the app, I’ve tried reinstalling a few times but no luck. With that the App Store wants to reload the cloud version it’s holding, ideally I’d like to get the original download but just can’t find it.

Just downloaded yet again but still no luck.

idrobbo yes separate SSID’s.

On mine I have the local access toggle turned on, and I think it prompts for it when I first installed the givenergy app which is why I suggested uninstalling and reinstalling it. If its not asking for local access then a bit stumped, sorry

I

geoffreycoan thanks Geoffrey, yes I’m sure it asked previously and I’m wondering if I denied it by accident. It’s just trying to find a way to re-enable this. Will keep searching.

idrobbo I’m sure you’ve tried this, but uninstall the app, shutdown and restart the ipad, then install again?

If the iPad's on 5 GHz only I doubt it will find a dongle transmitting on 2.4 GHz. If it's on both 5 and 2.4 try turning off the 5 GHz band, as 5 GHz frequently interferes with weak 2.4 GHz signals (you can always turn it back on again after it's established a connection). Alternatively have the iPad on 2.4 GHz all the time, as 2.4 has a greater range than 5 (albeit smaller bandwidth). HTH
I'm not an iPad fan, BTW...

I

geoffreycoan thanks Geoffrey, really appreciate your suggestions. Yes I’ve tried that multiple ways. It’s as though the app doesn’t see the local network.

I

ChrisLav Chris, thanks for the suggestion. iPad is (currently) only on 2.4, though I’m sure I’d seen it on 5 as well previously.

Still looking for ideas on this, I still think it’s the app not recognising the local network. I have raised as feedback but no reply from GE yet.

idrobbo I have raised as feedback but no reply from GE yet.

if you've used the feedback option in the app then it is totally a black hole in my experience. I have reported several things via the app and 2 years later never got a reply to any of them

you're better off contacting support directly

I’m having this same issue although bizarrely the other way around. iPad is working fine, but had to replace my iPhone and the new one just will not pick up the Home settings.

Gone into the settings and cleared the IP with the exclamation, but hitting Scan for Inverter flicks to Scan Complete instantly. Adding the IP manually brings up an exclamation mark immediately even though my router is showing it is on that IP, on 2.4GHz, and is accessible on my iPad.

Something weird going on for sure..

Atkinstagram if you go into iPhone settings/apps/GivEnergy does it show local access at the top, this is missing on my new iPad version but is there on my iPhone & older iPad. I think this is the issue.

Nope, no local access option available on the iPhone (iOS 18.5), but it is there on the iPad (18.4.1)

Seems the moral of the tale is not to update to 18.5..

That’s only useful if the option to access local network is there in Settings > Apps > GivEnergy.

Effectively, you can take away from Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, but you cannot add that which is not already there.

I'm on iOS 18.5 on my iphone and I have local access still set for the givenergy app. But I had installed it ages ago on iOS 13 maybe

Having just purchased a new iPad 2025 I have this same problem. I have tried all avenues and it seems that the problem is that the app is not requesting access to the local network….. this is confirmed in the Settings / Privacy & Security / Local Network ……. so it cannot find the IP address of the inverter.

The app has worked perfectly on my old iPad 2018. Hopefully the problem will be addressesd! Has anyone found a solution?

I have the same problem on my iPad.
iPhone works fine and has local network access

Has anybody found a solution or if there will be a fix?

Sadly Givenergy, judging by their inaction, appear to be completely uninterested! Until or if they ever upgrade their app, there seems to be nothing mere users / Givenergy customers can do!

Still no solution I’m aware of, my feedback request has not been actioned as far as I can see.

#31 hoggy

I wouldn't bother with the feedback thing, I don't think anyone has ever had a reply on it from what I gather since 2021.
I only ever had 1 reply & that was back in 2021 and was for something quite catastrophic. Everything else was left unanswered (& I went via support route to sort)

I’m having this issue on a new iPhone, hopefully it will be fixed in the new app update, but seems like a major flaw in testing for a bug like this to get released.

I honestly think Apple is misguided in what they are doing to the tcp stack here. If you think of an iphone/ipad like a bank vault. I needs to be secure and have a good (combination) lock on the outside. But on the inside, just an ordinary handle is needed. Putting a lock on the inside to stop someone getting out doesn't increase security, it just inconveniences the owner (when they lock themselves in).

The fact that other some other manufacturers security is lacking, is not Apple's problem, and Apple should not be trying to protect non-Apple devices. If you are finding this a problem you should be complaining to Apple, or at least contacting Apple support.

For now, the simple solution is to buy an Android tablet/phone. If Google tries this sort of thing, there will be serious opposition from the developer community.

I’m not sure where the issue is, I’m Fairly sure GE will say it’s Apple, & Apple will say it’s GE. As I said in my original post it works on my iPhone & old iPad, and others who have had a new iPad say it works on theirs.. it’s a glitch but quite how it can be resolved still remains a mystery.

The issue affects air conditioners, casting to TVs, and various "smart" devices. It's origins go back to here

Although not aimed at you, watching the 12 minute video may give you some insight into what is happening behind the scenes.

Good news ….. a very recent update has enabled the correct home function. Not forgetting there may be a need to go through the setting / local monitoring action again - the local network inverter IP address is now found correctly, at least on my 2025 iPad…….😀

Yes, well spotted & thanks for alerting us.
