EV Charging from Grid and not Solar

Hi, For some reason my EV has started charging from the Grid at 7.5KW/h when connected instead of the solar energy. I haven't changed any of the settings. Sometimes I disconnect and connect it again and it behaves . But I have no confidence in being able to use the sun to charge the vehicle. Does anyone know why this might be happening or know how to set it. If i set the charging rate lower i.e. not at max charge then it seems to apply this to the overnight charging schedule from the grid when it should be 7.5KW/h . Apologies - bit of a novice when it comes to Solar and EV...

Is it a GivEnergy EV charger that you have? Can you post images or details of the settings that you have?

Hi Steve, Yes it's a GivEnergy charger. Model GIV-EV-7.2
For some reason this never happened before, but of late it take from the grid during sunny weather.

Settings are;

Enable solar
Solar
Prioritise Solar to EV
Prevent battery discharging to EV
Charge At Max Power
Inverter control (under EV Configuration)

Settings look good but just wondering about the ‘charge at max power’ one because I believe it only charges from solar when solar generation is at a certain level so maybe it’s ‘topping up’ from the grid?
Do you have any scheduled charging set? Maybe by accident. If so maybe that’s causing grid charging?
When I got my charger I liked the green feeling of charging from solar but have you considered the economic benefit from charging from grid overnight on a cheap tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go or Eon Drive? Then export your excess solar at a higher value?

Hi Steve, we do have Octopus EV tariff and main was of charging is overnight at reduced rate, but we also like to be able to top up from Solar when sunnier enough, instead of sending it back to the grid for pittance. The way it used to work was, despite having charge at max rate, it would only charge the car when there was enough solar power (above 1.4kw/h for the EV - plus whatever the household required). However for some reason, lately it takes from the grid when there is not enough solar. It never used to do this. Our installer stated this should only be for a small period of time - for the time to the inverter to adjust. However, once when we were away it went on for ages, and it never used to happen. So we are bewildered.

Hard to explain what is going on then.
I deliberately grid charge at 7p and export excess at 15p so not doing what you’re doing.
Maybe submit a question to Giv tech support?

This happened to me last week, I restarted charger which seems to have fixed the problem
