I have a new install and was planning to use the cheaper Octopus tariff to top up my battery if reqd at the start of the day, just so initial load is covered by the battery. then I plan that as the sun comes out I charge the battery fully.
I have set the inverter as shown below but the early morning charge always uses all the 90 minutes to charge as much as possible and ignores the 20% cap I was expecting. So I am using more grid power than I need to charge the battery more than I want.
Have I misunderstood something?

Yes, you have, but this is a common mis-understanding. You have set the battery to "charge mode" for 90 minutes. It will stay in that mode for the time specified. It will stop charging the battery once the SOC is reached, but the battery will still be in charge mode. That means that the house will draw from the grid during that entire period (as the battery cannot be charging and dis-charging at the same time)

[unknown] what sort of system do you have? There is/was a problem where there are two different registers controlling the upper limit. As an experiment, you could try using slot 2 rather than slot 1 for the overnight charge.

Which tariff are you on, such that cheap rate is 7 to 8:30 ? If it's a new install, I guess you don't have export tariff set up yet?

I still have an economy 7 circuit and the website says

Your smart meter will have a fixed off-peak 7 hour period from 00:30 to 07:30. This time period takes place according to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), so during British Summer Time (BST) the 7 hour period will take place between 01:30 and 08:30. This may differ from your existing off-peak period on your current non-smart meter.

with a smart meter in BST they Don't adjust it so my cheaper rate goes on to 8:30 am, Annoyingly the storage heaters don't know this so they still turn on at midnight when the cheap rate starts at 1am! I am in an ongoing (since Nov) dispute with Octopus about this

Is there a way to force the battery to charge only from the PV (in the daytime) but also allow it/PV to feed the house load rather than the grid if reqd?
I am trying to make sure that battery is charged ahead of the export so that on a sunny day I send to the battery rather than max out the export and throw away the rest

pauljc That would be ECO mode. It should satisfy house load, then battery then grid - I don't have the lower voltage systems so can only speak from AIO, but in the remote control you have the option on what to satisfy first (under export power priority)

CW the export priority doesn't seem to have any effect on my G3 hybrid system. Though I'm not on the latest firmware

As far as I know the Export Power Priotity is a "future feature" and doesnt work on any systems at the moment.
I know there is a bug in the LV hybrid systems where the charge slots SOC settings are ignored, which may be fixed in the latest firmware, but you can use the overall "AC Charge Upper % Limit" to control charging, but it applies to all slots so a bit sledgehammer

There is ? My gen3 hybrid charged overnight to 90% as requested from slot 2.
I wasn't aware there was an overall upper limit, but if you mean the one in the 'enable/disable' part of the remote control section, that was set to 100%.

(I usually charge to 100%, but was getting some morning bonus IOG slots, so wanted to ensure there was space in the battery for any solar.)
