Hi all i have an outdoor mounted 9.5kwh gen 3 battery and using Octopus intelegent flux. Im finding that when octopus exports my energy between 4-7 the temp rises to well over 60 degrees. Should i be concerned about this, does it invalidate the warranty?

That's the inverter temperature, not the battery temperature. You'd expect it to rise when exporting - all that energy lost in converting DC to AC is only going to come out as heat.

Ours is in a large garage and gets up to about 45 when working hard on a hot day. If the inverter's in direct sunlight or poorly ventilated that won't help.

The Gen 3 inverter datasheet gives an operational temperature of -25 to +60 degrees, but not clear if that's ambient temperature or internal.

Chips78 My inverter and batteries are inside the garage. The battery BMS gets up to about 60 degrees when working hard, the battery cells about 35.

The battery is susceptible to cold temperatures and slows down charging when the temperature drops below 10 degrees (20 degrees on BMS 3017). Below zero it won't charge at all. You would be advised to look at insulation for the battery in winter.

The inverter is affected by high temperatures and many of us have fitted cooling fans to reduce the inverter temperature during the summer. I keep mine at about 40 degrees

geoffreycoan Apologies i meant the inverter. Its not in direct sunlight and i have installed a solar fan below it but 3 hours of exporting still seems to be making it very hot. I suppose my only worry is that running it this hot somehow invalidates the warranty

Chips78 I had exactly the same heat concerns last year, I emailed support and they told me the 70c shown in the app was fine and not to worry about it.
I have since put a couple of small fans under the inverter but only turn them on if I force export from the battery.
Normal solar export doesn't get as hot.

Both my inverters were regularly getting up to 80C+ after discharging to the grid at 8kW for 4.5 hours. For the last two years they have been fine doing that. I’m pretty sure that’s the board (or chip temp) temp inside the inverter that’s being shown. So it will get hot.

Nevertheless, I recently installed some small 80mm USB powered fans to blow up over the rear heat sink and that has knocked it down to 60C max after 4.5 hrs of max grid discharging.
