I have tried to upgrade/update to the "new" Smart Tariff on my dashboard. I am entering the Account number, MPN, Meter number and API, when I press sane it says "service error". Any help greatly appreciated.

Had issues also. Even though I have PV and solar forecast data in the portal, the smart tariff just wants to charge to a 100% in a cheap period. Which with solar is next to useless, may be ok if you are paid for solar but if you aren't or only get 4p per kWh.

Whole page needs more thoughts..switched it all off for now, may try in the winter and hope it's fixed. One step forward two back.

I got that when I tried the new smart tariff plugin when it was in beta testing. GE did eventually fix it so I could login. There wasn't really anything usefull once I had logged in so I removed it from the dashboard. Now I see the handy plugin that works is being dropped in favour of the beta one that doesn't.

I tried it, and maybe it is useful for intelegent octopus flux, maybe not, but I have basic flux, fixed time, so this new one is not much use to me, so disabled the automation, and removed it and reloaded the legasy one
I wish all was good, but its messed up my whole settings, even after restting them, they show when set, but the next day they have gone again, battery SOC was stuck at 100% and then tonight it went from 100% to 3 % in an hour, seems odd given the 19.5 kWh capacity. do I need to reset back to factory settings?, as now I have a system which I was previously happy with and now can't trust to accept the settings I set and act as before. I suspect a call to the help desk is coming up.

Installed it too. One thing I noticed is that once installed and gone through the setup process, you don't seem to be able to change the parameters, like daily usage, min and max tariff for setting charge / discharge triggers. Also do not have options to look back in (history) of usage of the days before. So disabled the plugin and keep using the legacy one.

jocky do I need to reset back to factory settings?

Probably wouldn't do any harm. But I'd have a look in the activity log on the remote control page on the portal, to see if an external agent is operating.

I am having problems with the GE 'New Smart Tariff' card, too.
Reviewing my cost/return figures, I decided to change my Octopus tariff from 'Octopus Flux' (fixed pricing periods) to 'Intelligent Octopus Flux', as the overall return projection is better with that tariff.
I also figured that the GE 'New Smart Tariff' card on my portal would work best with the new Tariff, and set it up with a newly generated API key.
This worked for the GE 'New Smart Tariff' card, but broke the GE 'Legacy Smart Tariff' card, which I also set up with the new API key. Both appeared to work for a short time (an hour or so), then the legacy card 'broke' - I tried newly generated API keys, but kept getting an error 'wrong API key'. Things got worse when the legacy card did not show at all when maximised - the portal just showed a blank space.

Since I have used the legacy card very regularly to check my consumption vs. earnings (since it allows for the input of a date range reflecting my running billing month i.e. 11th of previous month to 10th of current month), I kept trying to fix it, but have failed. I eventually logged a bug report through my portal last night (no feedback from GE yet).

To make things worse, the legacy smart tariff part of my phone app is also broken - no matter what I do, it will keep erroring 'wrong API key'.

I hope that I can get to the bottom of the API key issue in the coming days.

I am aware that GE are planning to phase out the legacy smart functionality in August, and am not opposed to the new smart card; however, I feel that the new version is lacking control functionality, and leaves me feeling that I have to entirely trust that between Octopus and GE, all will be 'well' and charge/discharge/feed-in processes will be handled by their systems to my advantage and with customers interests in mind.

And what about all those users who do not get their electricity from Octopus? It seems that this card onyl supports that supplier

I don't want my battery charge and discharge to be automated. I don't want to hand control to anyone else, even if it could apparently save me money.

All I want, is to see how much the electricity cost, and earned me historically. Just out of curiosity.

I hope this ability will be available, without going through the smart tariff automation malarky.

Hi - I too only want to see my historical usage, import / export. Don't want to automate my battery, but the "Smart Tariff Legacy" is about to be replaced. What are my choices.

Oh, and I can't seem to set it up the new Smart Tariff anyway.

As far as I can see they are replacing a useful dash card with one that is not as useful.

The problem as I see it, regardless, is that the smart tariff card appears to be designed to only work with Octopus (it mentions Octopus Go in the title)! So for all those people who use another electric supplier (and there are plenty of others)... too bad!

You can do this with the Octopus App. The Usage option shows historical usage by day / week / month / year in kWh or in £. It doesn't overlay the Agile pricing like the plugin does but you can see this on the Octopus bill. One page per day.

alan_johnston In addition if you get the little pink Octopus Mini device from Octopus (free but limited availability) you can see live data too.

Rarer than rocking horse sh*t would be a more accurate description.

I’m not sure if the mini is worth waiting for. I got a new meter and data hub several months ago and the install engineer also replace the mini device. Everything appeared to be working fine in that the mini status light was white meaning connected to meter and wifi and the Octopus app was showing live and historical data for months.
About a week ago the mini status light went green meaning not connected to wifi. I hadn’t physically moved it or changed any of my router settings. It has stayed green but the app is still showing live and historical data. If the mini is no longer connected to wifi then I can only assume the app is getting data from Octopus servers which have been fed from the meter.

Windy Miller I pre-ordered years ago. As did at least 8 other people I know. Usual response from Octopus - bugger all!

Mine came in a couple of weeks and has worked ever since for about 18 months

#21 Windy Miller

I ordered mine in March last year and it came in May. Has worked fine after I found the right location between my meters and my Wifi. I use the live data to look at today's half hour costs as without the Mini the Octopus app only displays data for the previous day. I also verify that I really am drawing no grid when I'm away from home (so ECO is on properly) and I can't see the IHD.

It's a pity I can't see the export on the IHD or the app. Seems my meter isn't sending the export data to the IHD as I know the IHD can display negative values. I have to read the export manually once a year to get paid by EON.

Also my gas is with EDF which means I can't see today's half hour gas readings, only yesterday's (in the EDF app).

When are these items going to get into the 21st century I wonder?

My Octopus IHD displays kW exporting values when in the NOW setting (I am exporting to Octopus).
But it doesn't seem to get the Agile rates so the NOW £ figure is wrong.

V
#23 Vestas

alan_johnston You'll never get Agile rates to display on an IHD. Takes weeks/months to update IHDs on variable tariffs every time the price cap changes so rates that change every 30 minutes are never going to be displayed. Ours still shows the price cap rate when EON "updated" it over 2 years ago.

M
#24 Mouton

[unknown] Agree. On IOG the most I get is my IHD now seems to try to report rate changing soon at the 2330 0530 boundaries (except it seems an hour out), but never at the additional slots (that I've noticed), costs / rates are never really right.

If it's not broke, why fix it?

Received my Mini about a month after requesting it. Connected within a minute. No problems since.
I do however wonder what it is for? Ok, live consumption, but at this time of year it's zero.
Can anyone shed some light? It just seems another thing to occupy an ip address.

#29 Windy Miller

mikes01666 Yes it does show you live usage but it also has the history for today and yesterday. Without the Mini, the Octopus app can only display the data received from the smart meter network which is up to 2 days later. Generally, if you want to do any analysis and comparison to GE data you probably want to do it for today or for the last 24 hours.

I also use mine to confirm that it has been zero whilst the panels and batteries are providing the house load. If the GE system gets stuck or runs out of battery it tells me how much it has/is cost(ing) me.

Octopus Mini arrived today. Set it up no problem and on the Octopus app I can see live usage as well as the day/week/month usage. The current live value includes import and output but the live graph only shows import. Any net export slots show as zero. The graph can show Watts or £/p which is handy.

Export doesn’t show till the next day

V
#33 Vestas

alan_johnston Amusingly so did ours. After 17 months.

Still wasn't happy connecting to a WPA2 network with 2.4/5GHz same SSID. In 2025. That's a fairly epic fail.

Disable 5GHz, connect the mini and then turn on the 5GHz again and its (of course) fine.

Anyone else feel that Octopus have probably exceeded any known limits (ever) for claiming products they sell/supply are still "beta"..... 😉

Edit - also if you're going to do a "Quick Start" booklet then maybe say what the LED state on the Mini means in the booklet rather than have people search for it......

A
#34 alan_johnston

SimonClarke Export doesn’t show till the next day

For LIVE (last 5 or 30 minutes) data (which is what the mini provides) the graph exports show as 0W.

V
#35 Vestas

alan_johnston I think its a bit shortsighted of them to limit the app to 30 minutes historical data when the data exists (and can be seen on the app elsewhere) for more.

Surely a zoom out to 24 hours would be a lot more helpful for most people?

Not great UI design.

A
#36 alan_johnston

[unknown] Surely a zoom out to 24 hours

I notice that the DAY mode shows the live data for today (import only). Without the mini, the today usage is not available.

V
#37 Vestas

alan_johnston Indeed but its in a different section of the app. Frankly I'm not sure what the point of showing 30 minutes max is.

A

The old Smart Tariff plugin has had a stay of execution. 🙂

For us full export was being enabled at midnight every day which would pointlessly drain the batteries before being recharged when the Octopus Cosy period started at 04:00hrs. Export was never enabled in Smart Tariff.
The midnight export persisted even when I briefly enabled export, set the times to 1730-1830hrs and immediately disabled it again. The times persisted but the export still happened at midnight.
I have reset Smart Tariff (new and legacy) and abandoned it as not fit for purpose for us. It is possible the bug is a compatibility problem as we are on the Fast Response firmware.

These are the commands that were showing in the remote control history -
