AIO (1) discontinued????

Hi all

Anyone else receiving emails from GE promoting additional AIO parallel installations?
I've had a couple now and they state that 'stocks are limited - secure your All in One now'
The Q&A also states that the Gen 2 will operate on different architecture so will not be compatible to parallel to a Gen 1

Are those of us with the GEN 1 AIO going to be left unable to add additional capacity in the future? In the next couple of years I may be looking at an ASHP and additional panels so an increase in battery capacity could well be considered. The implication here is that I should increase that capacity now even though I don't know for sure that I will need it, otherwise I may not be able to.

Unless someone official pops up to say otherwise then yes I do believe it's the end of the line for these once the current stock is gone. There seems to be a disagreement as to when that would be & whether the as yet unseen HEMS unit can or can't fill in the gap: there's quite a heated thread ongoing about it:

This is bull**** if they are going to stop making the 1 and not making the second able to pair with the 1 they should offer an upgrade on system unit for a heavy discount.

These systems are supposed to last years not just bloody 2.

It also raises the question of how warranty is going serviced if they wont have serviceable parts. what with them no longer making it - if this is true

Just to throw my 2 cents in. I got these emails. Very disappointed.

I got my Gateway / AIO/ Ev charger in November and ASHP in December. Not even had a full year of data to make any kind of informed decision as expanding the system. Ideally I wanted a couple of years of data. 1 to finish paying off my install. 2 to see if I really needed it.

Again just very disappointing it seems it's going that way.

Not having even software based compatibility is kinda of bonkers. Maybe home assistant will bridge the void.

Would it be possible to share the email content in this thread? The twitter battle sounds like there’s some disconnect between what the social media arm think is the happening (wait for HEMS) & whoever does the emails (act fast and buy up our stock before it’s too late)

DreadorUK I would assume they would have to replace with the one that replaced it

Jellybaby GE is really dropping the ball in my opinion, they had a great product line that was flying off the shelves and with some further development could have been made to run really well. This obsession however, with chasing others in the market and feeling like they have to bring a new product out almost monthly will be their downfall. Sad to see but not surprising.

Local distributor has them on promo while stocks last. They say its the last GE equipment (of any type) they'll be stocking due to the hassle they cause.

Vestas To be fair, I think once they iron out the calibration issues with PW3, it’s a great bit of kit. Family member has one and expansion pack and paid about the same as they would GE, it has been unbelievably reliable so far and customer service great.

Al E.Gator I'm not sure people understand what going to primary school in South Africa during the late 1960s/early 70s was like. Owning a TV was a criminal offence (up to 10 years in prison IIRC) because "TV was invented/run by the communists". The prime minister of the time openly lauded the Nazis as "true believers" and anyone who wasn't white was legally subhuman. From day 1 at school that was hammered into children every day of their lives.

I have family members that are South African and would take offence to your take on the country. Vorster was in power between 66-78 and whilst in earlier years he did associate as pro nazi during WW2, he never made any comments while in power and upheld racial apartheid, not nazi ideology.

Thiel was born in Germany and grew up in the US and there’s 0 evidence Musk endorses or carries any views being pro apartheid today, Musk even left SA to avoid being conscripted into the apartheid regime!

At the end of the day, while the Nazi’s where horrific, their rule and ideology doesn’t compare to anyone in power today and to associate so minimises the victims of their regime, moreover imperial Japan and mao’s china where far worse than the Nazi’s and their policies are openly lauded today!

Anyone can have their view on Musk or anyone else for that matter but to single him out compared to others in his position that have done far worse (bill gates, slim, and soros to name a few) is just lazy.

KevinB Thanks for that. So from the consumer perspective, it's not spelt out in black & white exactly what the intention with the AIO v1 is, except for the header image that mentions "Limited Stock" and the section Q6 which talks about the fact you'll still be able to get parts/service (but not really saying it's the end of the road.)
Having now seen the one the installers got, which does spell it out more clearly that once they are out of stock that's it for this version.

I would hope that the talk of HEMS unit riding in to save the day is the solution, such that you can bolt in a AIOv2 AND this magic HEMS box and all is well (& omitting that as a solution is done on purpose for both consumers & installers to "panic buy now think later") but all we really only have a twitter post - so ideally that pathway does need making clear.

It does sound like HEMS is designed to link anything Givenergy to anything else Givenergy - but unlike the CEMS units which went through a lot of field beta trials - I've not heard anyone with these yet* so how far along they are and if they will be ready before stocks run out? Guess we'll see...

*Giv may have gotten better at keeping things under wraps from us mere mortals!

Edit - think i need a holiday, completely missed Q5.... So erm, yeah no idea now where HEMS fits in now...

As a very ex-software developer and electrical engineer, I see no particular reason why an external management system cannot manage a plant with mixed AIO I and AIO II units in it, or existing and future AC and hybrid units. It requires some mathematics but isn't rocket surgery. Darn it! HA can be configured to do that...

mrand31 I think if GE is going to continue to drop products support etc, they should open up registers so a third party can make an EMS. This is the answer for GE if they don’t want to push the HEMS out.
