Battery not discharging

3 days ago the battery stopped discharging. It’s just sitting at 100%. I have tried to do a forced discharge via the quick links and a factory reset.

I'm also having issues, eco mode is not at all working, the system seemingly does what it wants.

GusM If this is a new install, you should speak to your installer in the first instance. Otherwise you'll need to tell us a bit more about your system if you want any suggestions.

(There seems to have been several similar stories posted over the last few days...)

Hi DD - sorry yes the info was a bit sparse. I have 12 JA solar panels, a Gen 1 GivEnergy 5.2 battery and a Solar Edge Inverter. No EV. The battery is at 100% according to the App but will not discharge. The trip switches are all in the ‘up’ position.
Thanks!

GusM
Can you login to the GivEnergy portal
Is your inverter online
Make sure it is set to Eco

Thanks Steve - according to the GivEnergy App Eco mode is enabled and on the Solar Edge App the inverter status has a green tick ( the inverter seems to updating regularly)

GusM If your system is like mine you will have 2 inverters. Ths SolarEdge inverter connects to the panels and the battery will be connected to a GE inverter. So the problem will probably be with the GE inverter. Can you give us any more about the GE side of things?

On the ‘GivEnergy inverter’ (G98 compliant?) the green circle is flashing and all the blue lights are on all the time ( but not pointing in any direction) leading to utility and battery. The blue lights to load are going off and on but not in any direction.

GusM Green circle flashing is the idle condition. It implies that the inverter doesn't think there's anything to do. As it is sitting at 100% it either thinks it is charging (within a forced charge window?) and has reached its charge limit or its discharge capability is turned off - i.e. ECO mode is off or Discharge current is set to 0 or a disconnection between battery and inverter (there is an Circuit Breaker in the red/black cables between the battery and the GE inverter that could be tripped or faulty).

If the clamp for the house load (usually around one of the cables in your meter box or distribution box) has become detached then the inverter doesn't supply any energy to meet the load (actually it reads 0 from the clamp so thinks it's meeting the load of 0).

Is anything else possibly controlling the battery - it could be Octopus or ANO that has access to your inverter settings? Switching tariff may have had this effect (but you would then have consented to their access and have given them your access credentials). GE can also do this if you have inadvertently enabled their smart automations card.

Have you tried a reset to defaults? Other forum posts describe how to do this.

Power down the battery and the inverter using the buttons AND switch off the AC breaker to the GE inverter for at least 30 seconds. This ensures a complete power cycle of the inverter otherwise it stays energised by the battery or the grid.

Within 2 years of install I would contact the installers to get them to test it again. Otherwise contact GE to ask them to take a look. There may be something you can't see that needs to be reset.

Thanks for your help. Using the App I have done a reset to factory settings, none of the fuses are down, I have tried switching the battery off and inverter off, eco mode is enabled as have as i can see there is nothing wrong with the discharge rate. So I am a bit of a loss what to I try next, I have informed the installer. The green circle is still flashing!

GusM You could use the portal remote control page to check the pause battery settings are off

GusM As above, the two main possibilites are that the inverter doesn't think there's any import requiring to be handled, or there is, but the configuration prevents it from doing so.

Perhaps post a power graph so we can see what the inverter thinks is happening.

Is you EM115 glowing green? Are you sure this is not fed by some circuit that is "off"

I had same issue this morning 20 month install never seen anything like it before - AIO

Seems for me it got to 70% charge overnight then just stopped - I had to do a hard reset of the gateway and battery - which kicked mine back into working.

No changes or anything to settings - I do have API to GIVTCP but I don't use any control API's I simply use it to read state for dashboard warnings on usage.

Looks like Im off to build an alert in home assistant

Thanks for your help everyone. I am pretty sure the issue is now fixed. This morning I did a firmware update for the battery and the inverted. All now seems to be working.

#16 Windy Miller

GusM Most likely the update has reset the dodgy register that had a rogue value in it causing your problems. Why the GE inverters can get themselves into such a state I do not know.

Windy Miller It's probably SkyNet testing the opposition. "Reset" is just another way of saying "I'll be back"...
