Inverter Battery not working as should in eco mode

I'm posting this even though there are at least two others reporting the same issue, in case this is a widespread problem. No change to the system, but my battery does what it wants: not charging when it's not full and allowing the house to use the grid when there is battery available.

I have reset settings to default, I have restored the inverter, I have done a complete shutdown. I am now awaiting my installer to contact me.m

Givenergy it's worth noting not everyone useses Whatapp so give that as a means of contact is not helpful.

yhzgirl What sort of system do you have? Which firmware revisions ?

You say "battery does what it wants", but it sounds like it's doing nothing at all, rather than behaving unpredictably ?

Could you post a power graph (from app or web portal). That might tell us things such whether the inverter is aware of the grid activity / solar, or is idling the battery because it can't see any consumption.

HI DD,
These are my system details:

Inverter Model Gen3
GIV-HY5.0
Software Version
D0.316-A0.316

Battery Capacity
186 Ah | 9.52 kWh | (1 Pack)
Last Software Update
2025-07-04 19:54:12

Over the 3 days I've been watching it misbehave it charges the battery until 12pm, then it sends the excess solar to the grid and the battery trickles out 15-30w. When I'm no longer producing solar it uses the grid not the batter,y despite the battery having charge.

If I force discharge or charge the battery, this works.

Eco just doesn't work as it should, but follows the above pattern.

There are currently no timed slots as I've reset to default and made sure they are all tggled off.

The system is just over a year old and has been working fine until 3 days ago.

yhzgirl I usually have my battery on pause-charge for most of the day (to export solar directly). It tends to report charging at 28W. So your 15-30W might be consistent with paused behaviour.

Charges battery from solar until 12pm (noon ?) ? Which does seem to suggest there's something time-sensitive at play. What level has it typically reached by then ?

Have you checked timed pause? Check via the remote control page, which gives a lower-level view of the registers. On the portal its linked from the inverter page. It might be useful to force it to read registers - each one has a circular refresh icon.

Do you use android? Do you have the inverter app installed ? https://givenergymonitor.wixsite.com/tutorials Or for iOS, there's a BBC app - see https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/5051-bbc-basic-inverter-app-significant-update

yhzgirl Just chiming in - have you tried resetting to defaults and then re-setting your specific adjustments? Might help

[unknown] I've repeatedly said I've reset the defaults, there are no timed slots, I've manually checked they are all toggled off in both the app and the web portal. I have reset them, and reset them to default over and over, nothing works.I have done ALL trouble troubleshooting suggested. Yes there is a time element but not one I can control with the available tools.

The level of battery reached could be 100% but I'm putting it in my car, discharging at peak etc in order to make the most of the solar produced and not give it away for pennies. So it differs depending how much sun there is really. It's not stopping because it hits a

Trouble shooting that has already been done:
I have reset settings to default (reset times and toggled on and off, then reset to default again), I have restarted the inverter, I have done a complete shutdown. I am now awaiting Givenergy to reply to my email.

I'm not posting this for help I'm posting in order to see if this is a wider spread issue and how others who've had it have gotten it resolved when troubleshooting doesn't work.

Cheers.

DD it's not charging at 15-30w it's feeding the house at that rate and no more, I can max discharge, max charge normally but the battery will not supply the house properly. Most I've seen is 78w. This in eco mode and with eco mode off it is zero as it should be.

So it differs depending how much sun there is. It's not stopping because it hits a certain charge.

I have checked the settings and reset them to defulat a number of times on the mobile app on the web portal.

I will try the refresh icon on the remote control page as that is something I've not yet tried. Then I'll give the app shared above a look to see if there's any clues there.

Cheers.

Sorry, I wasn't clear... with pause-charge, I see it reporting a charge of 28W. I think with pause-discharge it tends to discharge at 28W.

[unknown] Probably not relevant, but one oddity I have noticed in my system: if you have a discharge slot configured with a minimum SoC, then even if enable DC discharge is off, it will honour that minimum SoC, and stop discharging the battery if it falls below that level.

Eg a slot with noon to 9pm with SoC = 80% will pause battery at 80%, even if you are not explicitly exporting. But that's probably a firmware bug very specific to version.

DD Your last suggestion using the remote page and clicking on all the refresh buttons worked! This is maddening. I will only use this for setting up any timed events, the app is not reliable! Thank you!!

D
#12 DD

yhzgirl so you've sorted it? Which setting did it turn out to be?
Using the API also seems to actually read the inverter, rather than reporting the cached value. I have a simple python script to read/set most settings. (A recent change to the app has made it much harder to use multiple charge/discharge slots.)

I went to home assistant and added automations to make sure my inverter was "doing what I wanted it to"

I assume you discovered a setting that was wrong, which seems to confirm my suspicion that reset-to-defaults cannot be relied upon. Perhaps it resets only the registers that are known to be changed based on the portal cache, rather than actually asking the inverter.
