Maximising grid imports

We are in the lucky position where our import tariff 22p/kwh is lower than our export income (octopus variable) for most of the day.
Everything was set up to minimise grid import which is no longer the most efficient for us - I've turned eco mode off during the day, am using the timed charge and timed export functions to pull as much as I can from the grid and sell it back - is there anything else I can do to maximise PV and battery export instead of using it in the home?
We don't have an EV, we just have solar panels and an 8.2kw battery.

makes no sense to dump the battery back to the grid
if you have a surplus of solar pv had a immersion controller to the system

sparky77 usually I'd agree with you, but on my fixed rate tariff it's costing me 22p/kwh to buy from the grid but I'm getting between 25p and 40p/kwh to sell back to the grid so while energy prices are so high its worthwhile. Unfortunately as its such a rare event, the whole system is set up to avoid doing this

ill do the numbers & get back to you, take it you are on the variable octopus thing, which can suit most.
my reservation would be the following
when the price is high say at a guess between 4-8pm, is your inverter going at 100% then when you need power at 8 until cheap rate kicks in or solar charge the following day your battery is at zero.

in my own personal experience today's market at a normal tariff is the way to go, if you have batteries & solar
how do you heat the water in your home.

sparky77 Yes, we were already on a fixed rate gas and electricity tariff with Octopus and get their wholesale half hourly export rates since we got the panels installed. It's not massive but reckon we are about £1 better off per day maxing our import and exporting to the grid instead of trying to just use our solar. We're in a new build house so our gas boiler is fairly new and efficient, if it ever breaks we'd look at replacing with electric but for now the cost of replacement outweighs the benefits. Export return is higher than our import cost from 6am to 10pm so am aiming to drain the battery as many times as possible by then and charge it overnight. At the peak time from 4.30 till 8.30 we're looking at between 12 -19p/kwh profit selling their own electric back to them! Hope that makes sense, it shouldn't be possible but we've had pure dumb luck on the timing of our deals. Numbers and times may be slightly off, I'm juggling a toddler and baby while trying to do this, the numbers definitely make sense but I've not run them in detail (accountant so I cant tell you how much want to make a spreadsheet I just don't have time 🤣)
Another edit - the £1 per day is extra on top of what the solar gets us.

ShellMcl Export return is higher than our import cost from 6am to 10pm

6am to 10pm is a 16 hour window. With such a long window, you could charge and discharge your 8.2kWh battery up to four times. The temptation would be to install a second battery and an AC-coupled inverter but I suspect that the tariff you are on won't give you a decent return by the time it's been commissioned. Also, your export would probably be limited to 3.68kW as well, so maybe just cycle what you have each day.

I'm not sure how the Givenergy warranty would bear up to such cycling, but at least you won't suffer from SoC suddenly dropping as you'd be using the full operational range of the battery every day. And if you did need to recalibrate during the day, well, happy days.

Tim definitely not forever so just trying to make the most of a good thing while I can and very new to solar so need to learn a bit more about how it all works before adding to it. Why would my export be limited to 3.68KW - is this because its a 3.6kw inverter and that's an hourly limit not a daily number? Also, it might be our usage or inefficiency but I've only managed to charge and discharge the battery twice today. I'm guessing my numbers are limited by the inverter. Its not huge numbers but every little helps and all that. Tomorrow's window is smaller, as the day rate drops below 22p outside morning and evening peak hours but should still manage it twice with a midday recharge. Our battery is 8.2kw so I think the warranty is unlimited cycles, funnily enough it was the software update and associated charge dump that gave me the idea to do it more regularly, hadn't crossed my mind till then.

ShellMcl The 3.68kW export limit is determined by your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) - the local company responsible for the 240V network from your main fuse back to the distribution transformers. When you (or your installer) want to install electricity generation capacity, the DNO has to be informed and agree to your plans. By default, if your installation is less than 3.68kW (nominal 16A), you can "inform" them of your plans under (I think) G98 as they have to accept microgeneration at this level. If your installed capacity exceeds 3.68kW (say 6kWp PV), but have a battery, you can use a fast track G99 application, which would usually go through "on the nod" as long as you agree to limit your export to 3.68kW. If you have more than that, you need to make a full G99 application and the DNO will undertake a survey to determine what's needed. In our case, we paid for the survey and they agreed to our 12kWp array with two inverters and batteries but limit our export to 3.68kW. In fact, there are times when our instantaneous export is way in excess of 3.68kW as the inverters ramp down but if you look at the export logged on the portal, over a 60 minute period, it doesn't exceed 3.68kWh.

You may not be aware of the export limit but the installation should include an MCS certificate and a letter from the DNO stating that they agree to the proposal. All the necessaries were part of our handover documentation from our installer.
