Total newbie. Just had my battery and inverter installed yesterday. If I go to the online inverter settings guide it talks about mode 1 etc but in the portal inverter settings it refers to Eco, Timed Charge etc. Is there a guide for the new settings ?
All my settings are shown as disabled. How do I work out what the current settings are ?

jkraushaar I don't find the portal Settings tab the friendliest and easiest at first sight. The options are: ECO; Timed Charge; Timed Discharge; Timed Export; Battery Options and Reset to defaults. Just click/tap on ECO (to get a vertical line just to the left of it) and ensure it is Enabled, then click/tap Submit.

The old Mode 1 is now referred to as "ECO". For many people this is the mode you want to run in. The mode provides energy to your house from the inverter via PV or battery. When PV exceeds house load, the battery charges. When house load exceeds PV, the battery discharges. When the PV exceeds house load and the battery is fully charged (or charging at the maximum rate), the inverter exports to the grid up to your limit. If the battery is depleted and there is no PV, you will import from the grid to supply the house load.

If you want to charge or discharge for any reason (usually you have a Time of Use tariff that you can make/save money with), you can set times when this should happen.

Thanks both.

For now I just want the basic option offered by Eco. It seems that's what it's already doing even though none of the options are set.

Going forward, particularly when we head into autumn and winter, I may want to have the option of loading the battery overnight at cheap rate from the grid, whilst behaving as Eco the rest of the time.

I'm going to set the Eco option for now.

Currently trying to figure out the best octopus tariff ..... and if that would be different at different times of the year.
I also have an i-boost so trying to factor that in as well. May get the Solar i-buddy to help track that but also want to look at a more intelligent way of switching between i-boost and gas to heat the hot water. I'll get there !

jkraushaar Maybe also check out EdF's EV tariff. Your SEG from Octopus will be better but I found the Octopus standard rate was way above EdF's EV tariff rate.

Tim At first glance the EDS gas is almost twice as much ...... and the peak looks a bit higher. With SEG as an octopus customer that would go up from 4.1p to 7.2p ...very close to the 7.5p off peak import. If I load the battery overnight and end up returning all the electricity during the day It will cost me about 3p for the day. (I have an 8.2kw battery which should cover my daily needs) ... Will have a proper look

rio911 As I'm currently only with Octopus for my export I currently get 4.1p per kwh but if I were to use them for my import too then that goes up to 7.2p per kwh for my export (I think it's 7.2p it's 7.something but can't remember)

jkraushaar I get it. Yes, there is something like that but you have to change to one of their "Outgoing" tariffs. For a second there, I thought that Octopus are increasing their SEG rate. 😅
