Hi,

I have set timed charge from 12.30am to 5.30am to 25% as I get cheaper energy at this time - my logic is that the 25% gets me through from 5.30 to 8am when the solar starts generating.

What I want when I set the timed charged is for the battery to charge to 25% at this time in the case it is below that percentage. I want the home usage to come from the battery should the battery be at say 50% at this time. Then when it drops to 25% it just starts pulling the home usage from the grid. However, what I have noticed is that even if the battery is at 75% at 12.30am, the house pulls any usage from the grid even through the battery is above the 25% mark I set from 12.30am to 5.30am.

I hope that makes sense. Am I setting it wrong? Is there a better way I could set it because it looks like when I have set a timed charge, the house will not pull any power from the battery for these hours - is that right?

Do you have ECO mode enabled? If so, this is exactly how a timed charge period should work should work.

akhilstyle it's behaving as I'd expect. I'm not aware of a way to configure it to behave as you request.
What sort of inverter do you have? One weird behaviour of my hybrid is that if you configure a timed export with a minimum charge of, say, 25%, but don't enable timed export, it will still attempt to honour the minimum, even charging slowly to get up to that level. But may have been changed in newer firmware.

What tariff are you on. For me it makes to consume grid power all night, and fill battery, since daytime export pays higher than overnight import, so I want to get exporting ASAP.

Yup, that’s how timed charge slots work.

To get what you are looking for I think would require something like Home Assistant setting up to look at the levels and decide whether to set the timed charge window or not.

Thanks for the replies. I would have thought that the app/software would realise itself that there is no need to charge it until it falls below the level set on the app?

So if I set the timed charge from 12.30am-5.30am it only starts charging the battery if it was to fall below the level set (in my case 25%). If it is above 25% the load for the house should come from the battery?

Are there any other ways to achieve what I want without using home assistant?

You're not quite thinking of the charge mode in the right way.

Here's how it works:

  1. For the time period, set the inverter into charge mode. The battery will stop discharging when in charge mode
  2. If the SoC is below the level you specified, charge the battery from the grid. Otherwise leave the battery level as it is.

As a consequence of 1 and 2 if your SoC is above the target level any house load will be met from grid import.
In many cases this is what you actually want; assuming you are on a cheap rate overnight it is cheaper for you to use the grid to meet that load than it is to discharge the battery only for it to then have to be recharged later on (and incurring conversion losses both in and out). That way you save the battery SoC until its needed later in the day.

If you absolutely do want to use the battery the only way to do this is to reduce the charge period.
