Apologies if I’m wasting time! Today my GE 9.5 battery has only been receiving low to medium charging power from the inverter, Solar has met the house demand then the remainder of generation has gone to export, my priority is house and battery before export but today the battery that always charges to 100 has been stuck at 95,96,98 for alt if the afternoon only receiving 53-300watts whilst 800 watts exports. No updates done or settings changed. Reset inverter but no change other than a battery cal (done 2 months ago) Any ideas ?

Noticed the battery now isn’t responding to demand currently it’s idle and utilising grid. Hopefully I’ll try and resolve.

[unknown] charging rate can drop as the battery gets close to 100% since it takes care to not allow the cells to get too high.

Neal720 interesting as mine’s doing this too, just sat at 100% and not discharging at all

It did correct itself briefly up until 0100hrs discharged to around 80% then it started to charge itself to 100%!!! Overnight with nothing selected
To charge it, now idle obvs as I’m 100%, wondering if to discharge battery and calibrate??? Very odd behaviour I’ve not come across before.

DD it’s never taken 6 hrs to get from 96-99% thought

Neal720 that's something you could see if some setting(s) had changed. There is an option to reset-to-defaults, but I'm yet to be convinced that this unconditionally sets every register to a known state - several stories on here where people had tried that, then still discovered a register was wrong. In the remote control page you can force it to read registers into the cache - are you familiar enough with the settings to recognise incorrect values?

Do you regularly run the battery down to low SoC? That seems to be necessary to keep the bms tracking correct.

Was that just covering house load, or dumping to grid. At what time did it start?

DD weirdly I force discharged for a few minutes then changed it to house demand and then it states working as normal but then around 0030-0330 last night battery went from 80-100% and the grid was used to supply house then, from 0330 battery started again supply house.

DD I’m a little familiar but no expert, the battery occasionally gets down to 6% I wouldn’t say each week, SoC is this under battery on the inverter info? the resetting of caches? Where would I go for this again is this in the inverter options ?

Is it worth doing a recalibration I’m exporting at the moment to then recalibrate currently seeing as it’s nice day, it should charge back up

That's consistent with having a timed charge configured for 0030 to 0330 - even after it had reached the target SoC it will continue to hold the battery level until the end of the timed period. It might also happen if you had a timed export configured for that window, but with a minimum SoC of 100% - that may just be a weirdness of the particular firmware I have.

SoC (state of charge) is just the % shown on the battery bar at the bottom of the app animation page.

On the GE portal, on the inverter page you can get to the remote control page from the menu in the top right - you want the gears icon. That gives you a more low-level view of the registers. It shows a cached value that was last sent to the inverter, rather than reading directly from the inverter, so the displayed values can be out of sync. For each setting there's a little circular arrow which does force it to refresh the value from the inverter. There's also a button to read all unread registers - not quite sure if that actually does anything.

DD I have nothing selected only time a times charge is selected is winter time, my firmware is 3015 never updated 3013 messed it up and reluctant to update give GE poor support if anything goes wrong having said that its misbehaving now

DD I know where you mean I think, I’m discharging battery and will recalibrate, aswell as the cache reset if I can. Thanks so far for your advice

Neal720 not sure - some people seem to recalibrate regularly.

May I ask which tariff you are on? In my region (Southern), even on E7 it's very slightly cheaper to charge from grid overnight and export solar, than to charge from solar. But difference is marginal enough that it's probably not worth routinely dumping battery to grid at night before recharging. (But it would be roughly neutral if you wanted to realign bms tracking by discharging.)

Hi I don’t routinely ever dump my battery to the grid (maybe I should) I’ve always preserved demand for home, so winter time only charge overnight maybe 2-3hrs, as given the weather the battery is almost always used up by the end of day as solar is minimal to charge. I’m with British Gas, special community Tariff through ichooser, don’t own a EV but night rates far out way day rates imo.
If I’m in the right place regarding the inverter the Read all Unread Registers is constantly greyed out so can’t select, I’ve gone through each one and clicked through some on and off as I don’t understand some of the registers. I’ve discovered the SoC area but I’m discharging presently, so will keep an eye when fully charged. Have I missed anything regarding the cache?

Yes, you're in the right place. Do ask about the registers - that's how we all learn (since there's no documentation). In the first instance, I'd check that all start and end tims are set to 00:00 to ensure there is no timed activity configured.

At the bottom of that page, there should be an activity log, recording changes. Worth checking that there are no unexpected changes being made, such as by GE smart tariffs or an external agent.

Just checked on my forced discharge and noticed at about 17% it started charging yet the force charge icon on the app was still in place, very bizarre putting it to normal (eco) and then force charge again resumed discharging, very strange it’s almost like I’ve a virus or something

Obviously I know nothing of your circumstances, but with a relatively large battery, you can benefit from a time-of-use tariff, which probably isn't offered by a community scheme. i think you do get a relatively good export rate with BG.

If the tariff is fixed, though, there's probably an exit fee. So may not be worth doing anything till the end of that.

DD I have a gas boiler also so have never considered economy 7, I miss understood earlier I export with Eon with a not to shabby rate of 16.5p as they were my initial go to for solar.
I’ve currently discharged and recalibrated the battery so it’s charging (solar) so I’ll see later, when the sun goes down,seems to be a few others on here having similar experiences could all be coincidental 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is it normal on battery recalibration to import swell as take from solar to charge, it’s a clear sunny day why is it importing?

E7 is largely about what fraction of your usage is overnight. Storage heaters are one reason for having high overnight usage. But having a battery let's you effectively shift most/all usage to the overnight rate.
