Giv-enmergy smart tarrif widget and Eco mode

Hi there,

I just wanted to check I wasn't missing something obvious.

I've recently set up the automations in the Giv-energy portal to charge my battery 3 times a day (during cheap elec rate times) and discharge once.

This all works perfectly, but after each charge or discharge period the battery is not returning to Eco mode and so sits there with a full charge doing nothing.

I've looked everywhere I can think of within the Giv-energy portal, but can't find another setting to tell it to turn Eco mode back on after a charge period.

Is anyone able to help?

You need to tell us what equipment and versions you have.
You could also try a forum search as there are posts from others with similar issues.
AFAIK there are some inverters that show available slots on the portal, but cannot actually support the controls (due to limitations of the hardware - I guess GivEnergy do not want to be writing portal specific pages for every version of kit they make.
My Gen1 Hy 5.0 would not return to Eco after forcing a charge and so I initially used Octo R&D labs scheduler with a "forced" Eco reset and then moved to Home Assistant with all the control functions I could possibly want

Hi there,

I've got a GIV-AC3.0 inverter with a 9kw battery and a solar array all hooked up. Software version says D0.205-A0.205, although I notice now that there is an option to update the firmware to D0.212-A0.212, I assume this might be worth doing.

Last winter I used the Octopus R&D labs sceduler the same as you describe, to force a return to Eco mode and that worked OK, I just liked the look of the new Smart Tarrif bit in the Giv-energy portal and was...surprised...when there was no setting to turn the inverter back to eco mode 🙁

I think relying on some of the GivEnergy automations can be somewhat disappointing, in that documentation is "variable" and functionality "questionable".
That is why I went to HA and then added predbat. to paraphrase someone else "it does exactly what it says on the tin"

If anyone is interested, I updated the firmware on my inverter to the latest version and now the charge and discharge periods are working and the system returns to Eco mode afterwards.

So, seems to work so far.

Quite tempted to give Predbat a try from everything I've read though.
