I am having my SMETS 1 upgraded to a 2 in November. I have solar and a Gen 1 inverter & 2 5.2 batteries. Is there anything I ought to do in preparation for the upgrade to protect my GE kit or should I trust the installer?

If they are just changing the meter, I would make sure that you consumer units are correctly labelled as to where any battery, inverter and solar power is connected.
When they come, tell them what you have and I suggest you shut it all down manually. You don't want the man to disconnect the grid side of things and then get a shock from your kit from the consumer side.
Take a photo of the CT clamp, so you know which wire it was on!
And make a note of the arrow on it, so you know which direction it should be facing.
Sometimes they don't get it right when they put things back!

Good luck with your meter. In the end (after 4 years) I finally got Octo to install a dual band comms hub and extension antenna (not Octo's fault, but Arqiva rubbish RF network in the North)
We had our SMETS1 meters replaced a month ago by Octopus and had no problems with the solar and EV charger side of things. I just switched them both off and they changed both meters (gas and electric)
I did specifically ask them if the meters can record export just for my piece of mind. However it took a couple of weeks to get the meters sorted out on our octopus account (2 import and 2 export readings on the app) but give them an email with a picture of what I was seeing and two days later all sorted.
