Battery Discharging Outside Timed Discharge Period

I'm with EDF and taking part in their Sunday Saver, where I need to minimise electricity consumption from 16:00 to 19:00. Things had been going well, but I've noticed something strange now that we're onto autumn.

I also have Economy 7, so set the battery to charge overnight, which runs until 06:55. I then want a period until 09:00 where the battery can cover some usage until the solar panels kick in before stopping battery usage until 15:55, ready for the EDF saving. To do this, I have Timed Discharge set to between 15:55 and 09:00. This usually leaves me around 80% battery, enough to cover usage until at least 19:00. Sure enough, at 09:00, the battery output drops on the graphs, but not completely.

If the solar panels aren't providing enough electricity to cover the usage, the battery also discharges at up to 75W. Today it's cloudy, so is doing exactly that. It's now down to 66% with almost 4 hours to go before I need it.

I realise that I could set Timed Charge, but I don't want to use daytime rate for that, I just want Timed Discharge to stop it from using the battery at all. Is that not possible?

Jamesie What type of inverter/system do you have, and which firmware ? My hybrid-3 inverter tends to charge/discharge at 28W when paused.

Jamesie My gen-3 hybrid system, firmware #309, has a weird bug that you could exploit if yours behaves the same. If you have a timed export slot configured, with a discharge limit, then even if export is not enabled it will honour that limit within that period. Eg I happen to have timed export configured all day, but I turn it on and off as required. SoC is 70%. If I set the discharge limit to 80%, it stops discharging the battery, and it goes fully idle, rather than discharging gently as it does when paused. It's importing to make up the solar shortfall. (But if there was excess solar, it would still be able to charge the battery.)

In effect, it gives you multple timed reserve levels. Eg you might have one slot 9am to noon with a lower limit of 80%, noon to 2pm with a lower limit of 60% and 2pm to 4pm with a lower limit of 40%. Then it can use the battery during the day, but with a moving reservation as you get closer to 4pm.

But it's probably very specific to the firmware.

I've got a GIV-HY5.0 with firmware version D0.315-A0.315. For now, I'm going to have it not discharge after the overnight charging, see if that lasts all day. Odd that it discharges while paused.

I'll also give the timed export a go, see how that works on my firmware.
