Help! Inverter has started charging battery seemingly randomly not on schedule

Hopefully someone can help me. I've had the system since December and it's been fine but now it's started charging at random times. This is probably something I've done admittedly but I can't seem to get it back to how it was.

I have Eco Mode enabled:

A single charging slot enabled which is 2:00am - 5:00am to 100%

What I believe to be AC charging enabled:

Yet it still seems to have started charging at 4:00pm:

Please can someone shed any light on this?

At random times, or at an unintended time (4pm) ?

It's possible for the portal to get out of sync with what's actually on the inverter. If you go to the remote control section, it gives a lower level view of the registers, and it allows you to force a read of what's on the inverter. Also, at the bottom of the page, there's a log recording when registers were updated, which might give a clue as to what has happened.

It's only charging at 300W... I think that's the sort of rate it uses when the SoC goes below reservation. Does it only charge if the battery level is below a certain SoC ? What sort of system do you have, and which firmware ? Check timed export slots for a minimum SoC.

Check your export time settings for a export to a %. I had something similar the other day after the last saving session. I had an export to 50% set which I then disabled, but the 50% had remained and when the battery dropped below 50% it triggered a charge for the hour at 300W.

Unfortunately we also had the dishwasher on at that time

PaDav6 Which firmware are you running? I know my system, on firmware 309, behaves exactly like that, but I've been assuming it was a bug that would get fixed sooner or later.

(The discharge limit is honoured during the time interval even if the timed export flag is not set. Which could actually be used as a feature in some circumstances - a moving reservation using multiple slots - but obviously it would be annoying if you designed something based on this "feature" and then it went away.)

DD Software version is D0.316-A0.316. This just makes no sense as it's only started playing up, well I have only noticed it playing up, in the last couple of days

DD OK I have just noticed to my horror that the timed export slot was enabled which was 4:00pm-7:00pm to export to 50%. This has now been disabled. But I can't see how that would have any effect on what's happening right now since the battery is only at 42%. It's, as you say, charging at around 300w. It just doesn't make sense.

I think the replied may have been targeted to the wrong posts, apologies. How do I verify the minimum SOC settings you refer to? Inverter model is GIV-HY3.6.

PaDav6 I have just did as you suggested and adjusted the disabled "Export to 50" back to 4% to match the other slots. This does seem to have done it - I'd say that this is a bug in the software / UI...

It would only export if you also enabled the timed export flag, otherwise you might reasonably expect that it would do nothing. However, what we've noticed is that, during that time window, it honours the minimum SoC even when timed export is not enabled.

(In general, the discharge limit usually doesn't do what people might want : during a timed export, if the battery reaches the minimum, it goes idle, and the house runs from grid. So life is usually simpler to not bother at all, and instead tune the discharge power or the timed window to discharge to the desired level.)

Perhaps it's only recently that the battery has got low enough by 4pm for this behaviour to kick in. Or perhaps you configured a timed export for a recent savings session ?

Or use a 3rd party control like WonderWatt, Octo R&D labs scheduler or Home Assistant.
I never found the GivEnergy descriptions very easy to understand

DD I think it's the former - I used the timed export down to 50% two months ago during the summer where the battery was high and the usage was low to make use of the higher export rates. Perhaps the battery has only recently been below 50% between 4:00pm and 7:00pm and as such I've only just noticed...

alexw49 I'm afraid I use my own custom scripts, so don't really know what to recommend. Various options mentioned above, or there's also the premium version of https://givenergymonitor.wixsite.com/tutorials if you have a spare Android to run it on. Or My Energy Optimiser ?

alexw49 by far the simplest and cheapest is the Android app mentioned above.

Wonderwatt, myenergyoptimiser, predbat.com are a monthly subscription cloud service

Octopus R&D labs is free and used to be favoured, but reports of unreliability

GivEnergy have a smart tariff card that will schedule battery charging in cheap periods.

Predbat is a free comprehensive battery optimisation product, undoubtedly the most powerful, but requires home assistant (and a PC/Raspberry Pi to run it on) and is so comprehensive that there is quite a learning curve.

Personally I use predbat but plenty of other people here use the other services listed
