We had this charger installed about 15 months ago, and have several issues with it.
So we have tried to set up again via the app, but the install QR code label has been worn away by the elements. It was a PLAIN PAPER label!
Several months ago, GivEnergy support recommended suggested entering the serial manually with a password they suggested: it doesn't work. Tried support again, but they don't respond.
Might anyone know how to do set up this charger without its QR code?
Correct it doesn't work I fell foul of this fortunately I had taken a picture of the QR code and ended up after a few adjustments to the picture using that. ON mine the QR code was numbers and letters and on the App you can only enter numbers I think from memory. The stupid thing is once you get the QR code to register, it shows the Serial Number on the APP and in the Error section of the EV charger on the Portal. I realise this is not going to help you but investigate if you can see any of the EV history on the portal or GET support (I know) to view your EV portal logs for the serial number.

I think theres one under the cover inside it isn't there? (switch it off first)

hoggy Very good idea I didn't have my cover off but I think you could well be correct. š

Hello
Iām in the same boat. Changed WiFi. The QR code has gone so I canāt use that. Thereās no QR inside the cover. The app used to ask for DNO, fuse etc then asked if WiFi or Ethernet cable (mine is hard wired), but the new app doesnāt do that. It wants QR code, bug also says āor enter serial numberā. But the serial has letters in it, and the app sets the iPhone to a numeric keyboard, so itās impossible to get the data into the app. So now I have no way to get the charger working again. Any ideas ? Tried support, no response yetā¦

Got a spare Android device? If you have try that app. If the same then delete app, go to ApkPure and download an earlier version of Givinstaller that does not request letters in reg.

mole great ideas thanks, Iāll try both of these and report back.

Ok I found an old Galaxy tab and got the older version of the app installed. It allows me to enter the serial number (although thereās a character that could be a 1 or an l - no way of telling whichā¦)
But then it requires the WiFi name and password and of course those are on the same label as the QR code, which has long since fallen off. So it looks like the only way to get it working again is to persuade GE to send me a copy of the original sticker.
It seems to be a design destined to fail, and itās pretty disappointing. These EV chargers are expensive, GE support virtually non-existent and the charger is useless without this bit of information.
Any other ideas?

I don't have a GE charger, but it looks like when you power the device on it will broadcast a temporary hotspot - so you might be able to scan for it.
From there goto address http://192.168.4.1 and the default password is 12345678
All this is from ChatGPT so could be completely wrong, but you never know....
CW Thanks for the ideas. Iām some way forward but still canāt connect to the WiFi that the charger broadcasts. If I could, I reckon I could get it working.
So thanks to suggestion by Mole I got an android tablet, got the older app and this starts off looking hopeful. It asks which configuration I want to use, the fuse value etc, and whether im using an Ethernet cable or WiFi. I choose cable, but the next stage is always the same, it wants to see the WR code, or gives the option of āmanual entryā, which choose, not having the QR. This then asks for the serial number, which I have as that sticker is still present, but the next fields are WiFi name and WiFi password. Now I know the WiFi name, because it appears in the WiFi list when I turn the charger on, but I donāt know the password. In some documentation I found it says the password will be the serial # but I tried every possible combination of that. Also 12345678 which I think is actually the admin password for when I do manage to connect. So, next question:
Is there a standard WiFi password for these chargers?

Pontius-pirate Is there a standard WiFi password for these chargers?
Sorry, I don't know - could you ask GE support for the pwd. According to my mate Chat...
GivEnergy can issue the hotspot password if you provide:
The chargerās serial number (printed on the rating plate)
Proof of ownership/installation
The model (e.g., GIV-EV-7kW)
They can retrieve the correct hotspot credential from the device provisioning database.

Sorry its nots working out. As a last gasp attempt have you tried ADMIN or admin. A lot of IOT seem to use this ( Deco) as standard. Can you contact the installer to ask if they made changes.
As a matter of interest is the charger connected to an AIO? Has the password been set to same as inverter or gw?
People say that when talking to the AI chat bot at ge that asking for a human sometimes gets them through.

I have the GE EV charger I set mine up again recently, I did have the QR code / Serial number, but for Wifi I just entered the SSID that I had created on the Access Point nearest to the EV charger and the password for that SSID. What you need for the installation to succeed is the EV charger to be connected to an access point that has Internet access and can access the GE portal so that the installation APP can finalise the setup.

It's a good thought, but I tried that before and just tried it again. The app gets to the page where it wants either the QR code, or manual entry of "the details on the side of the charger" including Serial, Wifi and password. It won't go beyond this page if I don't enter the charger SSID and password. This is the wifi the charger broadcasts, and when the app has that it connects to the charger and then you can put the home SSID and password in, which is then stored within the charger. After that the charger connects to the home wifi, hopefully registers with the GE cloud and the process is complete.
I'm going to try calling GE again and trying to speak to a human...

I have set my GE EV charger up multiple times and have never entered any SSID and password other than the ones I have created on the local access points to complete the installation.

duplada I think if you have the QR code and scan that, it has all the WiFi details for the charger embedded. But thanks for your input, I will have another go tomorrow in the hope it will work!
I'm sure I read somewhere that the serial number should be entered with only the numeric characters but I can't find it now.
Hope this helps.

You are no doubt aware of the other GE community on the beta site. At the moment there is a thread about EVC issues which was started awhile ago. Two contributors daveb01 and djbenson have been discussing setup and using lan connectivity to get over wifi issues. Not pleasant reading but there maybe a clue there. Also it was interesting to read that the wifi was only available for 10 min after power up.
Over there an employee called the Dragon often monitors the posts in his own time and will pick up occasionally when tagged with a plea for help.
For ref the post is https://community-beta.givenergy.cloud/t/evc-keeps-going-offline/3076/5
I wish you all the best.

mole thatās really helpful thanks. I did have an account there but being new to all this Iām a bit confused by the two forums and routes that sent me to one or the other.
Iām hoping I might be able to get into the EVC by telnet or http over Ethernet. Thereās a lot of information on the thread, but I donāt know anything about JSON, modbus etc and I donāt use HA for anything. Itās a shame, I havenāt had the charger a year yet and although I had to repeatedly re-register it with the cloud at the start, after a couple of months it settled down and just worked perfectly.

Thanks again Mole. Dragon responded and I now have it up and running again.
I know Iām not the only one to have this problem though, I wish theyād just glued the QR code label on better, or at least put another one inside the cover.
Also maybe of interest, the serial number on the manufacturer label (which is still on there!) is not the one required by the app. I guess itās probably part of the info on the label which has gone.

Really glad you got it sorted. Don't go changing that router for a while!
Yes you are correct in that the serial # is numeric only, itās a 14 digit numeric only. Itās NOT the one on the larger manufacturer label on the side of the charger; I think it would also be on the separate label that has the QR code on it. So actually the iPhone app worked very well, once I knew what the serial number was.

Pontius-pirate I did have an account there but being new to all this Iām a bit confused by the two forums and routes that sent me to one or the other.
The other givenergy customer forum is marked as beta, I think it was intended to be a replacement for this customer forum, but that hasnāt happened. Its much less populated and much less active than this forum but if you search for āGivenergy forumā on google then the other forum appears first, so most of the people on there are newcomers seeking help.
Both forums are not actively managed by GivEnergy, so itās like this one, other customers giving advice to each other.
The Dragon (Paul Landregan) appears on that forum occasionally, and this one much less occasionally. Heās head of testing I think at GivEnergy.
The other route for getting help is to post something on the givenergy facebook group, there are a few givenergy staff including Paul that appear there from time to time
