CT energy flow

Here’s a thought../ would it be possible to have GE make a CT box similar to allow monitoring of other devices on the app?( Not necessarily to have historical data as I know that would take up server space etc and why would GE do that for third party devices)

This is more so the app real time would be more representative of flows? I.e if you have a non GE eV charger, a CT clamp could show the energy flow on the GE app to a charger icon rather than simply lumping everything into “home” use? (Similar to what ME allow for third party batteries - can’t see any historical data, but does show energy flows)

I know you can collate everything in home assistant (I do), but not everyone has the inclination to want to do that

They already do allow this with the existing kit - the EM115/GEM120 meters can be setup as ID2 or 3 and record different things. I can't remember if it's Inverter Generation and fw dependant though.

You can also just push data to the portal via API, but it just goes into a black hole currently.

I use a CT clamp on zappi to measure heat pump usage. I can download historical data from the server.

(I must get round to some tools to consolidate the data from all different sources - no one server sees the whole picture. Octopus has true grid import; ME have grid import, car charging and heat pump;GE has solar and house consumption.)

My Zappi EV charger monitors the solar generation levels so any excess generation could be used to charge my EV rather than export.

Ortwin When Zappi was installed, they put the CT clamp on the solar. But because it's a hybrid, it can't distinguish solar from battery discharge. And on IOG, I never want to charge the car from solar (while overnight is cheaper), so I just moved the CT clamp.
(Well... one small caveat - I do want to use solar for a daytime visitor who wants to charge, but in that case, Zappi isn't measuring the solar, the car is charging, and any solar/battery being pushed out displaces some of the import.)

DD Agreed, at the moment with export tariffs being more than overnight EV import tariffs there’s only really a carbon benefit to charging an EV off solar, financially you’d want to always export it and charge overnight.

From a scan of the commissioning documents I could find on the Interwebs, only the AC inverters are set up for multiple RS485 meters, that might not actually be the case though. Curiously, the portal does have provision for all eight addresses that the meters have available to them.
