i had a series 2 battery working fine. bought a series 3 to add. the installer came did his thing said it was all ok and left. noticed that although the original battery was switched on it was not charging or discharging, neither was it showing on the cloud. the installer having been paid has gone incommunicado. the only thing that looks odd is that although the new one is configured as master and the original one as slave 1, the cable from the inverter goes first to the original and then to the new. is this the problem?

In my set-up the slave is physically chained off the master. I guess that could be your issue and you also need to ensure the dip switches are correctly set up on each battery.

See if you can find the latest installation manual on the GivEnergy installer section of the web site to check.

john12 I think the master has to be first in the series of batteries. Its pretty straight forward for you to unplug and replug the cables the right way round, but do turn the batteries and inverter off first

I think it is correct that the new battery is installed as the master, but by the sounds of it, it's cabled the wrong way around.

thank to you all, i felt that it must be that, but do those cables carry signals, they just look like power cables. i suppose they must as how else would they know, all too much for me.
i will try to work up courage to swap them around. i will report back. all i want is it to work.
i feel let down by the installer, the way of the world now.

john12 I know the forum is a bit broken as far as photos is concerned, but if you are unsure you could try to pop some photos on for people to help confirm their advice and give you confidence.

i have been trying to contact givenergy for 2 weeks and all i get is "i will pass your call to the technical team , marked as urgent" and no one ever gets back. is this normal? it is easier to contact the dead.

Unfortunately there are many threads here with similar experiences - the Support used to be very good but they seemed to lose a lot of staff and experience a significant degradation of what was once a good service.
This then means installers don't want to work with them and could lead to a death spiral if the management cannot sort it out.

eventually got through to a techy, who immediately said the wiring was wrong, so much for a qualified installer.
all working now
