"Timed charge" settings causing battery not to supply house

Hi,
I've been troubleshooting an issue with my inverter; I realised this morning from the app that the battery (100% full) was not providing power to the house , i.e. everything was coming directly from the grid. After doing a reset, with all settings as default, it worked correctly.
I then tried adding back one setting at a time until I realised that setting "timed charge" on was causing this issue. I experimented with using slot 2 (with slot 1 empty) and this seems to have resolved the issue (no idea why!).
The system had been working correctly (as far as I know) for 18 months (using slot 1) before I noticed the issue so I'm not sure what has caused this to change now
Has anyone seen anything similar and if so, is this resolution likely to be sufficient for it to continue working?
All input gratefully received. thank you.

I think from posts others have made that different kit and different firmware versions operate in different ways.
I think think this was what Eric Morecambe was alluding to when talking to Andre Previn - apologies to younger viewers, you will have to look it up

Thanks, I'm old enough to get the reference :-).
I've since noticed that I have firmware updates available for both the battery & inverter - is this something I can apply myself, or is it best left alone? I don't want to create more difficulties...

I know when I updated my Gen1 Hy5.0 and 9.5 battery about 12 months ago, things worked a lot better.
Not knowing what you have, I cannot comment, but if you post what you have, maybe others will chip in.

Perhaps charging slot #2 had been set to an all-day charge, and by overwriting that you restored the desired behaviour?

DD No, I have never previously used Slot 2; I have only ever used Slot 1, and then only for 23:30-5:30 for the cheap Optopus rate. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hi Steve, my inverter is GIV-HY5.0, on D0.309-A0.309; it was last updated in December 2024 when my second battery was installed.
It sounds as if installing the firmware update might be a good idea - is it straightforward? I'm a little bit cautious of unintended consequences so would be interested to know if anyone has successfully installed update D0.316-A0.316.

Colin. mine is Gen1 Hy5.0 and now on DO 450 -AO 451 and battery 9.5 on 3020.

When I first tried updates (cant remember from what to what) over the air, they never completed. In the end GivEnergy sent me the firmware files and I took the front cover off the battery, removed the factory USB stick, copied the files and put the USB back and rebooted everything. All loaded OK. After then, OTA updates have worked.
I think i was on battery 2016 at that point - but dont quote me on it

I think the OTA update to be successful will depend on what version you are on now. Is the portal page suggesting an available update?

Colin-S My system - similar to yours - updated to 316 quite happily back in May. No issues at all.

Thanks Steve, yes it's suggesting 316 on the portal. I will try that over the next few days.
I'll leave the suggested battery update for now and do it one piece at a time.
thanks all!

Hi,
I'm having the same issue since last Wednesday. My timed charge in slot one is from 01:00 to 03:30 but the inverter would not use the battery for the house until after 15:30. I reset the inverter but this made no difference. Whatever time I enter, it starts charging at the right time but does not revert to battery afterwards.

I will try the slot 2 suggestion tonight to see what it does..
