power cut

Hi We just had a couple of power cuts and to my surprise despite having a fully charged battery we lost power in the house. Is there a way to ensure continuity of supply when the grid goes down?

Did you get the eps connected?

Mike-fenton There has been quite a lot of discussion about EPS in this community in the past. You have to make the choice about exactly what you want to be available during a power cut as the inverter is unlikely to be able to supply the whole property. The link provided gives the maximum the EPS can supply.

Many people are happy with a 240V double socket somewhere convenient to plug things in. Ours is in the loft by the broadband router and above the boiler. If the power went off, I'd drop an extension down to the boiler and plug the broadband in. Doesn't give me lighting but if a power cut was for an extended period, I'd look to doing something with extensions leads and plug-in lights. Not ideal, but I should have put the lighting, boiler and loft socket supplies into a separate consumer unit when we had ours changed.

EPS can also be UPS.
Connect the critical supplies to it. Then on power cut, router doesnt go off. Neither does my fish tank.

I am not sure that the GiVenergy EPS actually is "uninterruptible" - I think there is a break period between grid failure and the EPS coming back on. Not sure how long - 30 seconds maybe?

wilfleek There is a beta firmware available that gives instant switchover aparently

I have instant switchover. No noticeable break, not even for a computer, router or WiFi. It will be a feature coming soon

Anyone had an EPS fitted post solar installation?
Wondering on the costs.

Eon picked the hardware and the glossy side of givenergy https://www.givenergy.co.uk/products just says 'Backup power in the event of a grid outage' which is slightly inaccurate if it requires an entirely separate consumer board.
I would have thought the additional breaker added by the dno at the tails near the meter would have served the purpose of isolating the home from the grid 😅

Lmcde3 No. The AC3 is the same. Just a different setting internally.

Once its tested fully I'm sure itll be fielded as an optional add on.

wilfleek Mine is live all the time, I have my router and raspberry pi plugged in the eps socket and if a power cut occurs these remain on without rebooting.
