Hi All

So Ive mentioned it in a few threads indirectly but wanted to see if anyone else is seeing what Im seeing - context my setup has no solar so I have no influence from that potentially skewing my data.

In the last month I have been charged 36 kWh outside of cheap rate (was 40 but 4 was due to running out early doors) which is down to load balancing, and this has been on going a while now.

Initially when I got the battery Id see maybe 100w a day

I Know its not me getting the cheap rate start time wrong as Id see a huge amount then as the car starts at the same time as I charge the battery - and between 6-7 am house is using half of that so if I was being charged accidentally for that Id still think over 20 kWh is high.

If its just me Ill raise a ticket - if its not Ill probably still raise a ticket 🙂

DreadorUK can you provide any graphs of what you see happening?

Since you mention load balancing as being the cause I assume you have more than one AIO connected through the gateway, and the gateway is not responding sufficiently quickly to changing house load, resulting in grid import occurring when the load starts up, and presumably grid export when the load drops off?

geoffreycoan No just a single AIO been in since October 2023.

Yesterday as an example though not the best as it seemed a little lite but you can see lots of balancing happening

DreadorUK OK, so the problem is that your AIO is not responding quickly enough to changing house load.

There’s always going to be some lag between house load and when the inverter starts discharging the battery. I get the same on mine:

(My grid to house power entity is disabled as I wasn’t interested in it, so the graph is of yesterday’s grid power)

Ignore the areas in red which are Cosy cheap rate periods so I’m either charging or running off grid import not the battery, but outside of those periods you can see constant spikes up and down both import and export where the inverter doesn’t respond as quick as the house load occurs.

Unless something is running (like the heat pump and the kettle, or the electric shower) that is more than my inverter capacity, it’s generally small beer though. Here’s the Octopus energy breakdown over the day for the day before (for some reason yesterday is ‘not available’):

Last month the non-cheap import was typically between 1 to 20 pence a day. Importing 36kWh sounds a lot.

First thing I’d suggest checking is whether you are on the latest firmware for your inverter?

Yeah it was all good and like your the of 10w here 50w there but its gotten worse, firmware wise been on on latest and greatest both gateway and battery, as I jumped on them when the came out as had SOC issues before - I'll raise a ticket.
