Additional batteries to existing system.

Probably a stupid question so forgive.

I have tried to contact installer to arrange to add 2 GivEnergy 9.5kWh batteries to my current GivEnergy solar and single 9.5 battery system. It’s 3 years old and has worked fine in the main.

No response from installer. No response from GivEnergy customer service to email asking if they can recommend another installer. No answer on phone.

Noting the posts about the collapse in customer service and loss of senior management I too am wondering if this company is about to go bust.

Is it possible to install additional batteries from another supplier to the existing GivEnergy system that can work intelligently, or are we effectively stuck with adding givEnergy products only? I suspect the answer is ‘stuck with GivEnergy’ but thought I’d check.

AAW you can only add GivEnergy batteries because the batteries talk to the inverters via the BMS comms cable.

You can get a new installer to add new batteries for you, but they would have to take over the commissioning of the entire system from your old installer. Given the lack of contact from your existing installer this may be a good thing for you, but they may charge a premium for doing so.

Whether it makes financial sense to add more batteries, only you can answer. Remember that adding more batteries doesn’t increase your charging/discharging rate, only your battery capacity. If your system is 3 years old its likely to be either a Gen1 hybrid at 2.6kW per hour an AC3 at 3.0kWh
