Solar spike early in morning

Hi,
Over recent months my Givenergy app has shown a spike in solar production of approximately 20 kWh, usually at about 8am. This is clearly wrong as it is hardly light at that time. This is now happening on most (but not all days) and it has become impossible to see how much solar I am actually producing. It shows exactly the same on the web portal.

I reported this to Givenergy a couple of weeks ago but havent even had the courtesy of a reply yet.

Can anyone help explain this and/or point me in the right direction to resolve it?

Colin-S other people have reported this, it’s a fault in the app and GivEnergy know about.
I think the graphs in the portal are OK

Nothing you can do to fix it, just gotta wait for GivEnergy to do so.

is it some sort of data "catch up"? Have you tried re-syncing the inverter time and date?
Did it happen with change from BST to GMT?
Did you get the notification from GivEnergy "inverter time sync succeeded"?

I haven't specifically tried to do a re-sync. I updated the inverter firmware a few weeks ago to see if that would resolve it but no change. No, it didn't happen on BST-GMT change. I'll investigate the time sync, thank you.

I had a "Time Sync succeeded" notification a month ago (presumably this was at the BST-GMT change?)

Colin-S Did you do anything at about 8am that might have caused this corruption of data? For example did you run the Givenergy app? Or take a shower? Or unplug your EV? Were you even awake?

Edit the portal home page to show 'Legacy' energy graph. The newer Energy graph, the App and the reports are all using the same incorrect data, and are all wrong. The ' Legacy ' energy graph shows the correct values, and on some days, there's a world of difference between the two sets of data.
It seems to be that Legacy data is taken from the meter data under the inverter card tabs in the portal. I really don't know where the other data they're using is coming from, but it's incorrect!

Is the data wrong or just the graphs?

Check the meter data tabs, that will confirm if its just a graphing issue or if the portal has got rogue data in it

Rubikcube I don't think so - it has happened about 20-30 times now so I'm sure it is not behaviour related!

Hi Geoff. Here's an example!
15th Nov in the inverter, meter data tab, shows 0.7 kWh of solar generation. The Legacy Energy graph shows 0.7 kWh, whereas the normal Energy graph shows 9.27 kWh generation. That's only one of the issues, as there are many days that don't show any data at all!
Problem is, wherever that data is coming from, the GE app and generated Reports use the same wrong data, which makes them all unreliable.
It's been going on for a couple of months now!

OK, so that sounds positive, the data in the portal meter data is correct, so its not an inverter problem, its just that the app and the normal portal energy graph are showing rubbish data?

Annoying and unreliable, but at least the data is intact, so when/if GivEnergy do fix the graph data source problem you'll be able to see the graphs OK.

Personally I stopped using the app fairly early on as the portal graphs can't cope with me having two inverters, so all the house load data was rubbish as soon as it was sunny. That's what led me to Home Assistant so I just never use the portal.

The most important thing is the battery state of charge, so if you've got a good handle on that, you can decide what to do with charging/discharging. We get no sun in Winter anyway !

I use Rubikcube's Inverter Monitor app to control my inverter which has worked pretty much flawlessly for the last 2 years, but I do tend to use the GE app to monitor the monthly graphs for convenience at a glance, and the monthly reports which I download for reference and print out as a rough guide on the monthly figures over the last 3 years.
As I said, unless GE can get the proper data sorted out and backdated for several months, I'll have to use the Legacy graph and do quite a bit of extra work to sort out the figures I need.
See how we go!

It's not related to this (well hidden) setting in the portal is it (generally portal & app are run as almost seperate entities, so it shouldn't, but may be worth toggling it for a day or two and see)
It's under account settings > config (right at the bottom)

TimHutchings I use Home Assistant for my inverter data although I do have a separate spreadsheet with monthly solar, import, export, etc. I get the ‘total solar’ figures from the meter tab for the last day of the month and subtract off the total from the prior month end date.

On the “other” givenergy community forum, just saw this message about the data issues:

I’ve been speaking to GE on this. Software team are working on it, but in the interim they’ve advised to use the inverter data from the portal rather than the energy flow data to get the information.

Imperfect, but it’s available and they’re working on it.

Thanks for that Hoggy. I've switched it off and I'll keep an eye on the newer Energy graph and the Legacy energy graph over the next few days. I have them set one under the other in the portal main page, so I can see them both easily at the same time, and I'll report back in a few days with any findings.

Thought I'd just report back about the setting you suggested I try. Had it set to off for the last few days, but unfortunately it hasn't changed the problems that are currently happening to the data. There are still half hours with data missing and still getting spikes of solar generation early in the day.
Anyway, was worth a try!
