Best supplier / Tariff?

Hello, I'm currently with Scottish Power on a standard price cap tariff, I have my solar array etc installed a couple of weeks ago and it is providing me with everything I need in terms of energy at the moment but I'm mindful that autumn/winter isn't that far away so I guess the system will eventually not charge my battery competely during the day so I'm looking at other suppliers / tariffs that will allow me to charge the battery overnight if necessary at a super cheap rate.

I haven't currently got an electric vehicle so I believe this rules some tariffs out...what are your opinons on best supplier/tariff to go for with the aim to minimise cost when charging the battery.

I think Tide (Green Energy) might be the only one left that doesn't require an EV.

Yes, I hit a brick wall with this when I spent ages on it. I eventually moved to Shell Energy and switched to economy 7 - this results in an overnight tariff of 18p/kwh and day 36p/kwh. Seems to be the cheapest out there at this stage, but be prepared install of economy 7 metres can take ages....

I have just switched to Octopus on a price capped flexible tariff, but with economy 7 to match my existing non-smart E7 meter.
It is 20.7p/kWh for the 7 hours at night, and 30p/kWh for the rest of the day (all inc VAT).

Not on a smart meter yet, but I would have thought a smart meter would be used to apply the 2 tariffs for the time of day consumption going forwards, rather than a dumb 2 rate meter.

With my current consumption with no solar and a PHEV car doing a fairly low mileage, the monthly cost matches the cost that the Octopus Go tariff would be. The overnight saving is offset by the higher day rate.

I have an EV on order with an 11 month lead time 5 months to go), as well as solar PV plus GE battery hopefully sooner than that, so the balance to overnight charging will probably tip in favour of the Go tariff when they arrive.

Simon_C yes, the smart metre changes over too second rate, for me at 1am, but this will probably move to 12 when clocks change. Its clearly viewable on screen. Its a smet 2 economy 7 metre and had to get wired in. Its already saving me money, but the batteries and solar are saving me more!
