I'm experiencing connectivity issues with my inverter’s Wi-Fi.
Error messages I came across:

  • Time and Date sync failed.
  • Firmware update failed.
  • Invertor is not connected.

Troubleshooting I tried:

  • I followed the written technical support site from GivEnergy, but I can't connect the invertor and our Wi-Fi.
  • I followed the GivEnergy YouTube fix video.
  • Unsuccessfully searched for the Invertor on our wi-fi network. Even if I would find it, I do not know the password.
  • Read through the system's documentation (handover and technical data) but I could not find any info to help me.
  • Checked strength of wi-fi and I have two bars on my telephone when I stand next to the invertor. I have 3 wi-fi boosters in the house.

Any help?

Jud there is a pinned thread on this forum about diagnosing and fixing various router and wifi issues

turn 5GHz network off on your router as the Givenergy inverters can only connect on 2.4GHz and if the 5GHz is on then the router will try to force them to connect to that network which they can’t

make sure any fast roaming or other such advanced features on your router are turned off

The inverter only supports WPA2 encryption so if your inverter is set to a higher security protocol then they won’t connect

Then go through the wifi setup process again. Two bars on your phone which is almost certainly using the 5GHz network is probably not enough for your inverter to work reliably. Suggest you get another wifi booster nearer the inverter, or get its own dedicated wifi network

I had similar issues when I installed a more powerful router...I tried using a booster/extender which worked but caused some confusion inside the house with others and their devices...also at times when bandwidth was lower the inverter went offline. solution was that my new installer (of my 3rd battery - not the original installer who no longer deals with GivEnergy due to customer service issues) suggested hardwire ethernet direct from router to inverter..£200 - reasonable...now works a dream

geoffreycoan @AndyZ900rs Thanks for your help. I managed to fix the inverter connection to the home wi-fi via Technical Support. I put a booster right next to the inverter, and I followed the steps below. However, my App is still saying Time and Data sync failed and Firmware update failed.

To connect inverter to home wi-fi.

  • Using your mobile device, search for and connect to the Wifi with the name starting with a ‘W’ (password 12345678)
  • Make sure you forget any network you were connected before to so that your device does not automatically connect back to it.
  • While being connected to the dongle Wi-Fi, go to your browser and type 10.10.100.254 in the address bar
  • Put "admin" and "admin" as the username and password
  • Ensure your working mode configuration is set to STA mode and click apply
  • Select AP interface setting, on the second section on this page is your Wi-Fi name with security mode underneath is, if it is set to Disable, change it to WPA2-PSK, then click apply.
  • Select STA interface setting and click search button.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and click apply.
  • Put your home password in the Pass Phrase and click apply. ( I also added my MAC address)
  • Select device management and click Restart
  • It should display rebooting, The system reboots. Give it about 10 minutes and that's it!

@geoffreycoan @AndyZ900rs It was early joy! It stoppped working again. Now I could not even get back the Inverter's network! Very frustrating. Buying an additional booster and let's see, i can't hardwired in. It is in my back garden about 30 feet away. :-(

Jud If your wifi booster has an ethernet port you could try using a lan cable from the inverter to the booster. The booster will then use wifi to connect to your router. You will have to change the dip switches (search the knowledge base) then restart your inverter.

Just as a point in fact, ethernet cables can take signals up to almost 100m with no loss. But NormC's suggestion of ethernet from booster to inverter may be easier

Hi Geoffey and Andy,
I am so frustrated with this. I regreted so much that I have Givenergy app an inverter.
After I sent the message in January that everything was ok. The whole thing stopped working again maybe afetr 30 minutes. I have just given up.
I am trying again. The Inverters wifi would not connect at all. It is sshowing eth inverterwifi available as network with 3 bars even in the house (30 feet from the inverter) but no bars shown on the top of the mobile. Meanning it is not conencted. My home wifi is switched off. Now I am standing next to the inverter. My phone is touching it. It connect to inverter wifi for two secs and as soon as I try to add the http://10.10.254 to SAFARI, the invertor WiFi drops. I swithed of privat browsing.
Any tips would be highly appreciated.

@Jud It is frustrating. But just checking that you just mistyped the dongle ip address in your last post. And if that was the one you did use then it won’t connect to the inverter. Have tou looked on your router to see if the inverter is connected. It has the host name HF-21 ? If it is showing on your router then you could try noting the ip address it has been assigned and then adding that to the ge app. Also, if it is connected to your router you may need to clear the ge app cache/files. And have you tried any of the other apps. For IOS there is the bbc app and on Android there is @Rubikcube app.

I think it 10.10.100.254 you should be typing. 👍
