WiFi Dongle problem

Hi. First time poster here. I monitor my home network with Prometheus and Smokeping. I had a GIV-HY5.0 installed in November. I've been running Predbat. Last night I noticed there had been ping loss on the WiFi "dongle" that connects to my home network starting at 08:40. The Givenergy web site showed that there had been a massive discharge at the peak rate time of 16:00, which had apparently flattened the battery down to 0%.

The log showed that my battery voltage had apparently dropped to 5.57V !

I turned the system off and on again twice, the WiFi seemed no better and the battery didn't seem to be charging. It was getting late, so I turned everything off once again and went to bed. This morning, the ping loss is still there. The battery is showing 4% and 47.81V so at least that's a relief. I've now disabled Predbat. All four LED arrows on the inverter show at least 3 lit, plus a slowly blinking green centre LED.

I'll now try to phone E.On.

Packet loss is likely due to network congestion at the inverter (dongle). Dup pings are often due to a repeater configured as a layer 2 bridge.

Any battery will stop discharging when it is empty. Just leave it to recover, and the inverter will recharge to 4% when it can.

A percentage changing does not necessarily indicate a charge or discharge.

AlanW I don;t think you will get anywhere with Eon (presumably your installers).

You might want to drop the frequency of your ping check on the dongle to reduce load on the inverter and prevent timeouts from the inverter to the portal or inverter to givtcp/predbat. I find monitoring the inverter last updated time in givtcp gives more than enough notice of network issues as givtcp polls the inverter every 30 seconds, and if it can’t connect, it auto-retries.

The peak rate discharge could well have been predbat instructing a discharge if that was financially favourable for you. Would need to look at the predbat status to see what it was doing. Predbat will schedule. discharge for a time period so it wouldn’t have left your inverter discharging if it then couldn’t subsequently reconnect.

As Rubikcube says, your inverter should automatically recharge your battery, either off solar or grid to get it to a safe level
