Are any of you Nationwide members?

Hi all - a polite and time-sensitive ask if I may, and a brief "OT" departure from the GE situation (with sincere thanks to those members who are generously researching and prepping just in case).

If any of you have been Nationwide building society members for 2+ years or more, I’d be really grateful if you would consider nominating me to be on the ballot this year for election to the board.

Why I am doing this:

  • Nationwide is the UK’s largest building society and is owned by its members.
  • Members have the right to nominate candidates for the board, but in practice this rarely happens because the rules require 250 nominations for a candidate to appear on the ballot.
  • My objective is simple: to ensure members have a genuine choice in board elections and that the society benefits from strong governance, transparency and accountability.
  • There hasn't been a member-nominated candidate on the ballot or the Nationwide board for over 20 years.
  • I'm increasingly concerned that Nationwide is behaving more like a shareholder-owned bank than a member-owned mutual.

More info on my website - and if you want to talk to me on here, feel free to message me privately, or you'll find email / whatsapp options on my website. I am closing in on the target of 250 valid nominations from eligible members by 31st March and need an additional push to get me over the line.

I can’t guarantee I can get the society to continue to support its 0% interest Green Additional Borrowing mortgage - but I'll certainly be championing the cause!

Thank you all for your consideration.

James
