Does the Givenergy Inverter automatically change time from GMT to British Summer Time, or doesn't it have to, we are on British Gas Battery Tariff, the cheap rate is from 12 midnight to 5am. Thanks
BST and GMT
The inverter does not automatically change no
But the GivEnergy portal will automatically send a clock change instruction to your inverter overnight, you should see a notification on the app that this has taken place.
What this means for your tariff, you'd have to ask British Gas. It will probably change to BST but some tariffs such as Economy 7 don't.
I hadn't heard about the British Gas battery tariff, I see it gives half price electricity for 5 hours overnight.
You might get a better deal with Economy 7 which gives longer hours and usually cheaper. Depends on your solar size and battery size
Looking on BG website for Eastern region:
Single rate fixed from 1/4 25.6p
Economy 7 fixed from 1/4 31.2p (day), 12.1p (night)
So I do not have to do anything to the inverter then, that's good news.
Thanks for the very good info about the economy 7 tariff. As for solar we have 10 panels and 1 x 5.2 Givenergy battery, so would that tariff be ok?
Thanks
Oh, I just logged into my British Gas account and economy 7 isn't an option they are offering me, and I took the battery out of the equation !
i got in contact with BG and they said i have an issue with my smart meter and once that is sorted it will show
British Gas do offer Economy 7, what they don't want to do is set up your smart meter for Economy 7.
You will find that Octopus will convert your meter but you have to be an existing customer.
Sondra Economy 7 often isn't offered, you have to ask customer service for it, but it should be available for everyone
as for whether its a good tariff for you, depends how long your solar and battery lasts in the evening as Economy 7 is slightly higher day rate, but much cheaper overnight
Thank you for all your assistance , it has help me a lot. 😊
Newman Thank you for the information 😊
Did anyone get a notification in the app? I didn't
Seems that the time (server) commands are in the log, several times between 5am and 7am.
Just done a sync from the portal account settings just in case and then got the notification in the app after that. Just one notification showing for time change, previous one was a calibration a while back.
I was told this: Notifications weren't sent. As time sync is now done more regular to keep inverters that drift in check.
So the BST update would be the same logic. When inverter reports its time is not same as that of server. It would have auto set.
Before it was a 2x a year activity.
I didn't get one for the automatic update, but did for the manual one I did this morning - I hadn't found the logs by then so didn't know if it had done it.
Nem would have been useful to know, I didn’t see an automatic notification from the givenergy app either, but I can see my inverter clock changed at 2am so all good

There is a warning in the portal saying that some folks may not have had the time sync change.
