Rubikcube's Inverter Monitor App - Calibration of Battery

As many have indicated - this app is one of the most useful (and cheap) apps that many of us use and version 4.4 has many useful features added. Current discussions about GE charging for portal access make this more apposite. It is for local access by direct contact with the inverter through home wifi but some have managed via VPN to put something like (TailSpace VPN) on a local android cheap tablet and on a mobile device/laptop with same VPN and thereby use the app when outside home WiFi -i.e. externally. I am trying to sort this myself at the moment.

Rubikcube - I know I asked you this Q before and you replied at some length...but It is about Calibration of batteries. At present this is not possible but you did say that you would look at the possibility and you explained that it is a several step process. I wonder if you have been able to investigate this aspect a bit further? Thanks from all of us in this community

could you expand on this further - I use VPN all the time and Rubikcube's app so a remote access would be of interest...

If your router has built in VPN, typically OpenVPN, then I can confirm that works perfectly with the app.

pwdst agreed, that's the easiest way to do it and indeed the way I've done it via our FritzBox. Some Android phones will show an insecure connection with the older protocols but it's not really insecure as such, just not the newest encryption protocol.

I'm not sure my router has inbuilt VPN (Linksys)

Just to confirm that a version that allows calibration of batteries will be coming. It will also allow an inverter to be configured to run with or without a grid meter, and also allow configuration to work with other battery brands.

These advanced features, and the new recover tab in 4.4, need documentation beyond what can be included in the app.

I have just (since Saturday) started working on a new website to replace the Wix site which is starting to look out of date.

April is looking like a busy month! Watch this space.

FYI - my LinkSys does not have OpenVPN so I shall persevere with TailSpace. As far as I know I need to put this VPN on my Android tablet which is permanently online on home WiFi and I put Tailspace on my mobile device that can connect to wifi outside home and then connect the two.

Rubikcube Sounds good & bear in mind what I said about pricing in a previous thread.

Even upping your price to £10 net (£13 quid or so gross before google tax) would be sensible IMHO given how many people are likely to get pointed at your app.

I know you don't want to profit but "support" (even if just a recompile for later Android builds) would be ongoing for a while. The money however is likely to land in fairly large chunks which may not be helpful in terms of personal tax.

Do have a think about this.

How would this work? Can Giv inverters really be configured to work with other, more standardised BMS protocols?

Having the play, pause charge and discharge options available in your app would also be very welcome, especially if they had a built in timer so that you could discharge or charge for one or two hours to take advantage of saving sessions and then return to play/eco mode at the end of the timer.

anthonypar you can switch the charge/discharge schedules off/on to achieve this but I know what you mean in terms of ease of use.

I've got a Fritzbox 7530AX, and another 7530 used as a mesh... But I use a VPN on my systems. Will have to check if I can connect my current service through the router.

Bought rubiks app about 6 weeks ago, I knew this cash grab was coming and said as much... saw it coming with the constantly more enshitified webportal.

Anomnomnomaly you can - that's exactly what we use, a Fritzbox and mesh repeater. 5 minute set-up. My Android shows "insecure" but it's not really, just protesting that it's not the latest encryption protocol. I can access Rubik and Home Assistant easily enough.

Probably not. But you can connect any 48V battery by setting the type to lead-acid, setting the min and max voltages and the capacity. Just don't expect an accurate SOC.

I wonder if the GivEnergy BMS firmware can be flashed onto a generic BMS? From the few PCB photos I've seen, the Giv BMS hardware appears identical to other generic BMS boards.

@Rubikcube - another one I noticed trawling through remote control is "Winter Battery Conditioning". It doesn't affect me so I never looked at the logic of it but its something else which people won't have if they don't sub.

Vestas With newer BMS/inverter firmware, there is now a local 'battery self-heating' option.

Any brands more suitable than others?

Google how to add Google play store to the Amazon tablet. I have done that on a fire 11 . Believe me I'm not very tech savvy and I found it quick and easy.

Slarti I did that with one of my kindle fires and play store was a resource hog anf slowed the kindle down badly. Not keen to do it again. Also, amazon don't guarantee that Fire OS will play nicely with play store (or any non FIre OS APKs so it is a bit of a lottery.

Given unlocking controls requires a Play Store payment it isn't going to be as simple as just uploading an APK.
