I am stumped! I have loaded Rubikcube's app on my home network. I have loaded TailScale VPN on my android and on my mobile android phone. I want to "see" my home App and control it when away from home (we all know why!) I have the inverter app on my mobile as well.
Vial Tailscale I can see they are both connected but I do not know how to connect to see my home app data.
PS My home router does not have OpenVPN.

You will need the app on a device out of the home and then to make a VPN connection to a device on your home network and that can share that network to VPN clients.
Which router do you have?
Is there a better VPN that is free to use?
AndyZ900rs I think you misunderstand - the app needs to be on your phone outside of the house. The purpose of the VPN is to allow the app to connect to the inverter whilst away from the home WiFi. That said there are remote control apps available which might allow you to access the tablet sat on the home network from the phone - but that will be a lot more clunky.
If you want a permanent solar control tablet on the wall at home, there is no reason why you couldn't install the app on both devices. Personally I would lean towards Home Assistant if you want lots of control screens as the inverter may not be able to maintain lots of concurrent connections.

I do understand ...I have both apps on the home android tablet and on my mobile which accesses another wifi when away (in our static van) and/or the mobile data. I see the home tablet but do not seem able to connect to the inverter app on it. It is clunky I agree. I hope there is an easier solution...I am not sure Home Assistant is the answer for me...I'll keep trying..but thank you so much I know how you have done so much for others in this community. It is really appreciated
With the VPN active on your mobile phone what happens when you launch the app on the phone, setting aside the tablet for the moment beyond being a VPN endpoint.
Does the app work on your phone when you are at home?
AndyZ900rs You don't connect to an app with a VPN. You need to connect the app on your phone to your inverter.
I have an RPI4 running Wireguard on my home network. My home router port forwards any traffic the wireguard port on my homes external IP address to that RPI. I run a wireguard app on my phone and the phone can then see any device in my home. So the Inverter app sees the inverter.
So Tailspace VPN doesn't exist, so I am assuming you mean Tailscale VPN as you mentioned earlier.
Looking up that VPN it does seem it is possible to access your local network through an exit node, but your tablet would have to be configured as one and you would need to explicitly enable it - "exit node local network access".

Please keep in mind configuring Tailscale is completely out of scope of this forum and it is possible no members have any experience of it.
The TLDR of what you are trying to do is allow a remote device (your phone) to access another device (your inverter) on your local network via the tablet.
It looks from a brief check like that is possible by making the tablet an exit node.
If that isn't enough help you might need to ask on a TailScale forum or perhaps Reddit.
Might it be easier to install HA and setup Duck DNS and NGINX VPN and then put HA app on your phone. All fairly simple to a dim wit like me following youtube videos? Also free apart from the Pi
