Been throwing an Excel spreadsheet together as I wanted to have an idea of cost per kwh and the variance in the GivEnergy info versus the billing info from Octopus.

I've tried to get the total estimated cost to match the chart values on a couple of different days but the maths just doesn't add up. I've gone about it various way, starting with the total kwh and subtracting the usage outside of the Go tariff and the other way of adding up all the kwh usage in the Go tariff window.

End result is that I can't get the total cost to where it needs to be even by adding the standing charge - which I'm not entirely sure is there either. If I add the standing charge it does get closer and looking at the table data and not the chart some of my 30 minute low level consumption obviously isn't enough to show on the chart due to scaling, this will get me closer to that Estimated Total Cost figure but its still off.

Example: 26 Nov 21 using highest pricing value)
Total Kwh Used: 26.916 kwh (Table Value) Octopus recorded value of 26.92kwh
Total Estimated Cost: £2.003
Total peak kwh used: 2.133 @ £0.231395 = £0.49355 (from table not chart)
Total off peak kwh used: 24.783 @ £0.05 = £1.23945
Total off peak and on peak used: £1.733
Electricity used plus standing charge @ £0.1835 = £1.9165

@simon_swinburne can you advise if the standard charge is included in the 'Total Estimated Cost' figure and if there is a calculation error somewhere?

I have just checked mine for the last 10 days. They are within a fraction of a penny vs "Octopus Watch" app on my Android phone with standing charge included

simon_swinburne Hi Simon, thank you for clarifying that the standing charge is included.

I'm off by almost exactly 7p per day on the last 7 days when comparing Octopus Watch and the portal info. It's odd as the total energy usage remains the same on both the portal page and the app!

Obviously it's not much in the grand scheme of things and as I now know its 7p I can subtract that from the number - just a little frustrating it's not correct for no apparent reason.

Is your standing charge definitely 18p & not 20something? With the day rates being in their 23p I thought all the standing charges had jumped well beyond 18?

Mine was already 23p standing back in Nov 2020 and that was when the unit rate was 13p

Yes, I'd check your standing charge on the Octopus account page. Mine is 25p/day for "Octopus Go Faster (3H from 2230) May 2021 v1"

Hi @yandards ,

We based our standing charge off a fixed price for each consecutive day to be 25p when we were developing our card. We can make amendments to this in the future but there is a reason we labelled it 'estimated' as we base the data from the information we can incur.

Thank you for the feedback. I've added this as a request to fix standing charges

I did sanity check after your comments, it's 18.35p, I'm on Octopus Go Sep 21 V2.

Good to know about the estimated cost card using a standing charge rate of 25p per day - that does cover off my 7p difference.
