Does anyone know if the Givenergy app will intelligently take over when I put my Octopus Agile details in? I'm basically wanting it to automatically charge my battery and car based on the predicted low cost times throughout the day and not have to micro-manage
Intelligent Control
I think you actually hand control of your inverter to Octopus and they send the commands to the GivEnergy servers that then signal your inverter. (others with more knowledge than me can correct if necessary)
However please read the posts about the state of GivEnergy and if they "go" there is unlikely to be any GivEnergy servers issuing commands to your inverter.
You may want/need to think about other options
SteveCook Are you thinking of Intelligent Flux tariff ?

Sorry. Probably, i was not paying attention . My mistake, I was watching Star Trek
Kenty GivEnergy do have what they call smart tariff support on the web portal dashboard. The description does suggest that it would automatically charge your battery based on the cheapest tariff timeslots. And the graphic shows Agile. I've never tried it myself.
In the dashboard, you may have to edit your dashboard to get the card to appear.
Not sure what the app does - I assume that if it has any support, it's just configuring it on the portal where most things happen. (But everything is subject to change at the moment, of course...)
Kenty charge my battery and car
If your car is compatible, for many, IOG (Intelligent Go) is hard to beat as a tariff. But the dynamic charging slots can make it a little more complex to manage effectively. Even Go might work well.
If you have enough battery, you can operate entirely at the cheap overnight rate.
Kenty Yes the portal does, and you can do some of it using the app. In the top right corner of the smart tariff section, there's a spanner. Click on there to see the settings.
I've generally used the portal most of the time, though it doesn't do it optimally. The only time I did it all manually was for the day or two after the clock change as it was an hour out for a bit. That got irritation though, as you can't plan >24hrs ahead due to the registers being triggered by time only.
It doesn't update today's slots when tomorrow's prices come out, so it might fill up at say 17p at the end of tonight and, though it wants to charge at tomorrow's early hours 11p, it's already full. Also Peak Protection can be a little inefficient. I find I may tweak some days - use the import window settings etc. to force it to use some slots. It can also be a little over conservative and give itself more slots than it needs to charge, so again you end up with a full battery on the slightly higher cost slots. How much difference that makes can depend on the nature of the day's pricing, though. For example I forced it to use the <-2p slots, to charge, today, to get the most out of today's plunge pricing. So, it's a reasonable compromise between low maintenance/effort and optimal value.
If GE were still looking after this stuff, it wouldn't take a lot to improve those issues, but at best that's only going to happen with the subscription basis.
I've started looking into Ha/predbat instead, but there's so much going on atm that it's a slow process.

Given the uncertainty over the future as GE are now in administration I wonder whether changing to a 3rd party control is wise unless you have the means to make changes locally. I don’t use 3rd party control but there has I believe been posts on here complaining of their devices being locked out when trying to move or change these. If that is the case then folks could risk being locked out of devices, unless there is an easy way to unlock it locally, if cloud access is lost. I appreciate it is the hardware elements of GE that is in administration.
Kenty Just noticed the car bit. We do that using our charger (ohme), not the GE software.
Just food for thought, if givenergy are going under (there's quite a few videos online regarding this), you may want to remove all settings etc that allow 3rd parties to control your device (since you may not be able to turn them off afterwards). The car charger would be my 1st thought (since I think this is cloud controlled). e.g. if a 3rd party sets a schedule then once that 3rd party stops having access, I don't think you could change the schedule and be potentially left with a car charger that only charges during the schedule times set XYZ days ago)
Speak to the Geek advocated immediately switching on manual charging and using your car for scheduling in case cloud controls disappear.
