To do list post-Giv administration?

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out what I need to do before Giv go fully bust and the software team start charging for the cloud services.

I'm going to get a Pi4 set up with HA and the GivEnergy integrations. I presume I need to set up an API key for that? How many API keys should I set up now for the various tools which could have local access? Or is the API key only a cloud thing?

I'm going to download all the data I can get my hands on via the web portal. I see there are a few third-party tools available for that too.

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to get any spares on the cheap.

Anything else anyone is doing?

Do you have an Android device? A phone will do. If not, can you borrow one? Can you try downloading this app and let us know if it works with the AIO2?

It seems to work, connects to the inverter IP address, shows a load of info that looks reasonable, but I don't know what you'd expect to see exactly for the AIO? Without hijacking this thread, do you have a list of things you'd like me to check/test?

API keys are only a cloud thing. For local tools you just point them at the IPv4 address of your inverter. What you should do however is assign the inverter a reserved address on your network, so that it will always get the same address after it or the router are rebooted. This is usually done using the router control panel or app. Unless you have decent networking knowledge, just assign it the address it has now.

There is zero authentication needed for a local setup. As others say, enter the IP and thats it. The only problems you may get is if you put the Giv kit on a different IoT type network or guest network.

I have set my Giv kit to have zero internet access so nothing cna change from what is a working setup and so they dont get my data as one would assume they are harvesting telemetary as it has value. If they are not, wtf are you doing giv software.

Thanks, that's good to know. No need to do anything more. My app is another option for those who find Home Assistant technically challenging.

DHCP reservation now done for the AIO2, thanks @pwdst. Thanks also for confirming that the APIs are only needed for remote access.

@Guybrush-Threepwood, I agree, there's value in them thar data-hills. Blocking internet access is an interesting idea, although in my case I probably wouldn't do it without having remote access to the HA box I am definitely going to get set up very soon definitely no more faffing around...

Anything else I should do?
