Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
With GivEnergy appearing to go under, my question is if e.g. the inverter dies on an install or a new battery was purchased 2nd hand, can they be installed? e.g. is the online aspect required to commission the units or is the commissioning only really needed for the cloud or application aspect?
jon22 Battery isn't a problem, new inverter will require commissioning via installers portal & you're not going to find anyone willing to do that. Used inverter won't require commissioning but may not comply with your G98/99 status.
Inveter wise I had a Givenergy one initially installed but it always squealed. Installer was great and just replaced it with a Fox and everything with my AIO is fine. So if push comes to shove you can just replace the inverter with anything, as long as it... inverts.

Thanks for your feedback. Regarding the battery, is the install option straight forward (e.g. connect cables then log in locally to inverter and update battery size etc).
Regarding the fox inverter, thats interesting as I though the batteries were only able to communicate with the GIv inverters. Would you mind sharing your inverter model and battery models please? Be good knowledge to have on hand should inverter blow in the future
jon22 Giv batteries are not compatible with Fox inverters.
When installing Giv batteries with a Giv inverter, there is nothing to configure at all; everything is auto-detected and fully functional with no intervention required (providing, of course, that all installation instructions and best practices are followed).
Other thing to say that when plugging in a givenergy battery you need to set the dip switches inside or on the side of the battery correctly, indicating whether it is a slave or master battery
But no inverter config required
geoffreycoan mine needed givenergy to set it up their end when I plugged a new battery in before it would show up

Battery will work fine, makes no odds whether it shows up on the portal or not.
As I understand things, the battery will only be detected automatically if the auto-detect flag is on (register 109). Seems most installers leave this on, but I don't think they are supposed to. Problem with auto-detect being on is when a battery fails/disconnects the inverter will reconfigure without the battery (or set capacity to 10Ah if no battery detected).
From memory it's 58 that does that - if it can't talk to a BMS it assumes lead acid.
109 basically tells it to speak "Givenergy BMS" and not someone else's*

Vestas I have a spare inverter (long story). Does this mean it is effectively only useful as a very heavy paperweight?
johnoy I believe so, unless we can convince Mr Cracknell to add the registers to GivTCP in some kind of advanced mode. Which imo would be the right thing to do.
Am I being stupid, I have yet to commission a gen 3 3.6, fitting it next week. will I be able to commission this at all?
There is no support team so I guess that depends if the commissioning process requires interaction with them or not.
