My Gen 1 battery says it can be upgraded to 3022. Is this safe to do? I've done upgrades before. Usually it's ok, but on one occasion I've had to call GE and they've given it some sort of nudge to get it finished after it stalled. Obviously they aren't there to do that any more.
Probably. If you have Android the Monitor for GivEnergy Inverter app would help you if the calibration stage got stuck - and most newer firmware updates don't trigger a calibration anyway unless you are on a really old version.
It might be worth having a look at the instructions for manual firmware updates with a USB stick and deciding if you think you could follow those instructions yourself if it was necessary. Then grab a copy of this firmware and your current one if it's still on the website.
After that marvel at it completing without issue and think what a massive waste of time this all was (it's the equivalent of carrying an umbrella so that it doesn't rain).

Unless you think the upgrade will fix an actual issue you are having, no, it is not safe to do it, or rather, not without risk.
Don't be caught up in just wishing for the latest release for the sake of it particularly since you could be screwed if it all goes wrong. It will likely cost you a call-out charge from your installer if they have to help you.
I haven't upgraded for sometime and my system works just fine. I updated a total of 3 times, and only once did it complete without issue. The last time I spent all day on the phone to my installer and GE trying to bring the system back to life.
Thanks all. I've no specific reason to upgrade, so I'll leave well alone unless I become aware of an issue in 3020 that affects me. I should be able to upgrade using a USB drive, should it be necessary.
Like the others, I'd say why would you? If anything goes wrong and you can't fix it yourself then you are stuffed.
I'd suggest taking a backup of the BMS software from the givenergy site in case it stops being available in the future.
Personally I'm running 3015. I did try 3020 and 3022 but found I got less throughput on my 5.2 battery so reverted
MrTim I'm holding on 3020 - it's been decent so I'm sticking for the foreseeable.
I've been on 3008 since the day it was installed in 2022 and it has worked fine so I've not updated and I definitely won't be updating now with no support from Givenergy. It is ain't broke..... :-)
