EV charger questions

I've not currently got an EV but the Mrs' next will probably be electric.
Now Givenergy have gone bust I've seen talk of the EV chargers not having any smart functionalities... But then I've also read that as long as it is locally connected to an inverter then it will still retain some degree of smart functionality.

The main question I have is.... Should the cloud connection disappear will the inverter and charger together be able to divert excess electric to a car rather than the grid?

Another question which may halt it all together, can the installers still register commission new kit?

Andrewz61 You don't have to install aGE charger just because you have GE kit. I have zappi with mine, and had it wired so that the battery cannot see the charger so won't drain during a charge session. Also the zappi can be configured to charge the car with excess solar once a configurable export limit is reached. I'm sure other chargers that are avallable will have similar capability.

Smart EV chargers have a degree of reliance on cloud services, but most if not all, can be put into some kind of local charge mode. I do not recommend getting a GE Charger given the present circumstances, even if you can find someone to sell and fit one.

Just like CW, I am a satisfied Myenergi Zappi customer. In my experience, it has been flawless in operation and firmware updates have been easy and uneventful, unlike GE hardware.

killythebid I will second that the latest Zappi charger I have installed works with my Givenergy Kit very well indeed. I had a GE EV charger installed with my GE Dual AIO System, what a nightmare piece of junk the GE charger was. It started schedules when if felt like it, and only one schedule could be active at a time, I could write pages with the faults it had. So one day I lost my temper with it and ordered a Zappi. Not looked back since, Zappi can charge with a variable percentage of the Solar you may be generating and just works. I am on Octopus IOG and use Wonder Watt integration to charge the house battery automatically when unscheduled slots are allocated. It works like clockwork, before with the GE charger I was having to stay awake to make sure the schedule actually started. These days I plug in set the Octopus App for the percentage to charge and Octopus and the charger do the rest. I don't even have to look to see things are progressing it just happens.
