Unpredictable small Grid import.

System recently installed, AC inverter and 8.2 battery, seems work as expected except even with energy in the battery though not full we get minor grid imports.
Is this to be expected?

If it is very short term, and small value, then yes, it is normal - just the inverter taking its time to reach, or maybe not quite reach, a perfect balance.

And battery ramp up can take a few seconds to meet demand too so the grid is required initially to meet demand spikes.

Yes, I get on average 0.1-0.2kWh imported per day, as others have said the battery can take a few seconds to ramp up.

I get between 0.3 - 0.6 kwh over a day depending on the weather and use of the battery. did my head in originally, but apparently that's how it works!

I saw this too. As others have said, it's normal. In fact it must be so common a question from newbies like me that it's in the FAQ! 😀

Yorkie71 I am quite frustrated about this power usage. Before having the solar, my daily consumption is 6kWh. after installing the Panel+ inverter+ Battery, my consumption is still around 1-1.2kWh per day even the Panel generated much more than I need and the battery has enough storage. What can I do to reduce the power consumption from outside?

To consume power from the grid rather than the battery in eco mode you must be exceeding the power output from the battery which is a maximum of 3.6kw with a Gen 2 inverter and 2.5kw with Gen 1. Therefore to avoid this situation make sure you do not have two high power appliances on at the same time e.g. cooker and dishwasher.

NgOX10 the inverter can take a short amount of time to ramp up the battery input, so for high energy, quick use appliances like kettles, the battery may not be quick enough to respond.

The system cannot react instantaneously. For example, if you switch on a kettle the immediate requirement will be provided by the grid until the inverter and battery ramps up.

You have reduced your daily consumption by 80%. Not a bad start, to be honest.

Also, as Anthony has sad above, try not to exceed to maximum that the system can supply. It's not always possible, especially at times like teatime where an electric over, grill and kettle may all be going at the same time.
