Adding wind turbine power to charge my battery?

Question mainly for GE but others might have a solution.

I currently have a GE AC3 fed by 2 solar systems using Solis inverters. I have been looking at small wind turbines that do not need planning permission and found tesup Atlas X and Atlas 2.0. Any ideas on what I would need to get this to charge the battery? I am looking for a small solution to provide 200 - 700w overnight and over the Winter months etc.

Certainly an interesting prospect and one I’d love to hear more about. Where are you thinking of mounting the wind turbine, house or pole?

THALL After you mentioned Atlas in another thread I had a quick look on YouTube...there are lots of people very angry with Tesup and the quality and output of their turbines. It's a shame as on their website they appear to be very promising.

dcsh House. It weighs 20kg so I thought a frame/platform on the gable end to keep the blades at the highest point. I know it needs to be the highest clearest point available. I could get it to power things in the house easy enough but would be really cool if I could get it to put a bit of charge into the battery too.

judgepd Yeah I know :-( But there are some video's of people making improvements with a few bolt replacements etc making it much more sturdy. But this is just 1 product, I am not set to buy one but for the cost its not a bad idea. I am lucky that my house is on the highest point in the development and the top of my roof clears the nearby tree line. But I know id need 8ms/s wind so 18mph. In Summer it would be pointless, but in winter 14mph+ is common and 10m up it should be a bit faster too.

Hi Thall, the AC coupled inverter can monitor multiple sources of PV generation, you will simply need to monitor your additional PV system in order to do so, if your current system has a blue CT clamp monitoring the PV generation, you'll need to get both an ID2 and ID3 meter installed to replace the clamp, this will then allow you to respectively see what each system is generating, alternatively you can have both of the supply cables from those 3rd party inverters through a single CT and it will add both together, but will in turn only show you as a total what they are doing.

THALL We currently have 2x 1.6Kw hydro turbines (Powerspout) connected to our 2x 8Kw battery 2x3Kw inverter system via 2x 1.5Kw Solis Minis. The hydro did work fine unmonitored, but recent GE software upgrades mean this now confuses our inverters, so we’re rewiring the inverters to a master-slave config and monitoring the hydro (next week hopefully). Also got 6Kw of solar panels via 4Kw Solis monitored, although our sun disappears behind a fell from December to Jan so no good currently. Our DNO have allowed me 1Kw more of generation and am thinking about a wind turbine, but not found a good solution yet, so keen to hear what you and others suggest.

Sykes It would help :-) I would check with all 4 of them before install a turbine. It would have to be pretty silent to not annoy me too.

It's really the missing piece for the UK over winter, just a 1kw unit would cover off most of what I would need.

It would have to sit at the top of the roof gable (not too bad as we have a high roof due to a 45 degree pitch) but it's the noise aspect that concerns me - especially potential resonance through the brick work.

I was actually looking at the same and was about to buy, but trying to work out how it would work.

I have a GE inverter so I think I would need another inverter for the wind but no idea and trying to get electrician advice seems difficult. Putting excess into the battery would not be a concern. My target was 200w from wind just to even take the base load off.

A friend of mine bought a wind Turbine a few years ago. Was a government approved one.
He had to take it down as it had a dreadful harmonic hum at low speeds. A similar one in Scotland fell down because of it.
He is still trying to fix it by modifying the motor mount. It’s not going to happen any time soon.
So make sure whatever you get has a proven track record.

THALL Atlas 2.0 was my preference as a 2kWh, I only required a 1kWh but if I over size with a 1 kW inverter then low wind would give better performance

bignelly I would avoid, every video review I have seen has shown the things falling apart. Plus to get 1kwh you need wind speed of at least 10m/s. I didn't bother getting one. I would like a turbine to cover 200 - 500w but there don't appear to be many options yet.

In my own experience ( windyboy ) over 3 years I generated around 100kwh. It was always not windy enough, so freewheeled, or it was too windy, so it veered out of the wind.

Biggest waste of money ever.

Solar - just worked and keeps working.

THALL Yes the reviews are terrible and they don't seem great quality
For some reason wind no companies are doing wind, if you want a wind turbine in Ireland they want to start at a 2kWh and crazy money for them.
As you I just wanted a 200-500w one to keep things ticking over. The Atlas would meet that based on the wind in my area on some days
