Unable to find local inverter

I am using 3 neero units, my energy app is unable locate the local inverter, I always have use the cloud to find the inverter.
Any help would be great.

StewartBuxton have you tried looking on the eero app to see if you can see the inverter ip address?

Although if you search on the forum you will find lots of people asking about the same issue with advice about dealing with the issue. People suggest deleting the app and reinstalling it.

I have noticed this recently. The dongle flashes continually and no connection.
Reseting my router seems to fix it.

StewartBuxton Have you tried getting the phone with the app on it connected to the same node (router) that your inverter is connected to ?

Yes, deleting the app from iPhone and re-installing it makes a much better improvement. Although I have noticed that the new paid-for app is somewhat slower to boot up than it was 2 weeks ago. Also, have lost the info display for my Givenergy smart plugs. Hey, Ho.

My app will not find my local inverter either now which is really annoying.
I have to switch to cloud server then it’s there in local settings. It’s on a fixed IP and has been on its own subnet for 4 years now. This new app will not find it. What is going on? Pay for a premium service and get utter garbage!!

I quite agree with the last comment. Everything was working just fine before the premium service. Why on earth did they not just leave it alone, and not make the several-steps-backwards alterations. If they had left everything as was, I would have been quite prepared to pay the premium due to the collapse of the original company/supplier. GRRRRR!

Because my wifi router is located in the far corner of the house and the inverter is located in the opposite far corner of the house (garage). It cannot get a signal from the wifi at all. So I had to install a powerline adapter and wifi extender.

Because the powerline adapter was giving such a poor connection, I installed the inverter on the guest wifi channel because other devices were constantly trying to connect to the wifi extender if it was giving a better strength signal... but connecting to the stronger signal made things worse for those devices because the powerline adapter was so poor.... you'd actually get better speeds with the lower quality signal back to the main router.

So my inverter is on a seperate SSID to the rest of my devices.

Which means that I cannot connect to the inverter at all now that givenergy have told customers to go fuck themselves... They've taken away the ability to add the IP address of the inverter... it's basically... if it's not on the same SSID as everything else... you can fuck off. If I try to put it on the same SSID it fucks up the entire signal for everything else.

Thankfully rubiks inverter app doesn't suffer from this same level of enshitification and desperate grab for money from a company that will be bankrupt soon anyway thanks to their colossal mismanagement.

But seriously... givenergy can go fuck themselves.

Their app’s ability to find your inverter on the network has always been flaky, even pre the new 2 tier system. Well that’s been my experience. In contrast the bbc inverter app finds it every time.
Apart from clearing the app cache I have been fortunate that after a couple of attempts the app did find my inverter (now I don’t know whether having givtcp running at the same time helped the app discovery).
And since
My original attempt to use the ge app via vpn failed. But since I have connected locally at home I have now found I can connect via vpn. Although that is even more flaky than physical local.

So what they are doing differently from other app providers re the discovery bit is a real mystery. But equally is appalling as this is their own equipment.

Anomnomnomaly I totally agree with your sentiment on that.
I knew that we had zero chance of wifi connecting to inverter so insisted the installer did a wired connection, if you decide to its a simple DIP pin switch on the AIO and plug it in, no router passwords or setup because it's wired. Givenergy downloads have the docs. Rubik app is awesome I agree.

Anomnomnomaly If you follow any of the GE related facebook groups, you will have seen that they recognised this as a problem, but needed to get something out and working quickly for the majority of people. In the latest version of the GE app V4.0.7.5907, in the Connection => Local Connection settings, you can input an Inverter IP address/port. However, if your phone is on one SSID/network, and your GE kit on another, you may still not be able to connect to it, depending on how your router is configured. That isn't a GE/App problem, it's a router/network problem which you have to solve.
I'm no supporter of what GE have done, but the three ex-GE employees who are trying to keep things going do deserve at least some thanks for trying to make the best of a very bad situation for both them and us.

Using GE app V4.0.7.5907. If I use a browser to access the ipaddress of the wifi dongle I get a login page. So my phone can see the dongle. However if I use the app and enter the ip address, it immediately fails to find it. My Pi running GivTCP can talk to it without any issues.

GusTheSadGeek Whennyou say your phone gets the login page can you check what WiFi ssid you are connected to when that happens. I suspect you will find your WiFi ssid used by your phone will start something like WFH. That means your phone is connected to a WiFi ssid that your dongle uses to manage the device. And the ge app even if it connects to that won’t be able to pull back your inverter data. To get your ge app working your phone needs to on whatever WiFi ssid is assigned the same same ip range as your inverter and pi.

Maxwell Same SSID - same Access Point. The Unifi app says both devices are connected to the same AP. On Any device in the house I can browse to http://<DongleIP>:80 and get asked to sign in. My Pi4 on the same network can connect to <DongleIP>:8899

GusTheSadGeek I'm a long, long way from being an expert on networking, especially subnets, but maybe that /20 subnet is at least part of the problem, though I understand why you would do that if you have lots and lots of network devices. The broadcast address for a /20 network is 255.255.240.0, rather than the 255.255.255.0 for a simpler and more typical /24 subnet. Hopefully you've sorted it in the time it's taken me to respond..

T-M The 255.255.240.0 is the subnet mask. The broadcast address for 10.1.1.0/20 is 10.1.15.255. And have to say 4096 IPs is a big home network.

I have quite a few devices - less than 100 - but assigning to different "pages" (/24) just makes keeping track of stuff easier.
For instance each child gets a /24 range and Alexas have their own /24. Make it easier to work out what is abusing the internet. But we are all on /20 subnet so we can talk to each other.
It has been like this since before I got the system installed 5 years ago and the app used to work (most of the time).
