Giv Energy Ltd and Giv Energy Software - Real Concern

Give Energy Ltd in administration... hardware warranty now void. The administrators do not answer!
Giv Energy software... a business of THREE people!
My installer, local to me West Country Electricals... has gone bust. I did lots of due diligence, they seemed to have a good business model and I visited installations talking to customers!

Not a happy position. I would welcome other perspectives.

I have chosen to sign up to Axle not just for the incentive (Giv Energy premium free and earning money from events) but also because it hopefully strengthens Giv Energy software.

On the hardware front I have contacted by recommendation a local supplier Phillex specialising in GivEnergy to develop some support if needed.

Steve56 Much the installer is still in business (and honestly has made one screw up after another, including installing kit he wasn't familiar and not reading the manual to fix it).

Currently there is an issue with the gateway so we don't get off-grid power, the AIO is running like a dream and I'm using the rubikcube / Andrew Miller Givenergy Inverter app - but have free control on the other unofficial Inverter app (the Richard Russel one) as a backup - both developers are active here.
I have one annoying issue traced back to my installer (yet again) but with an easy fix he's sorting- hopefully this week. The other issue could be a configuration issue or something but it's only with the gateway changeover.

My perspective at the moment - if it works leave it alone, another local company has expertise with Givenergy kit and can do a lot, and it is June so I'm happily watching the 💰export amount going nice and high.

Export payments are every 3 months and we had our first already.

Also, Givenergy was only 16 people, 3 are now doing the app.software side, and some of the other 13 are working independently on doing the hardware side.
Spares and other kit are going very cheap on eBay so if I had the space I would be adding a new battery...

Every electricity bill since April has been the standing charge only and the next export payout is due soon.

Big yellow graphs and an electricity company that pays me are making me smile.

George97 me too, got mine in Oct and gateway still doesn't do off-grid... which is quite possibly down to the installer or a configuration setting... the installer made multiple basically mistakes even with things like the network cable (wifi not a option). There was a fault with the gateway but easily fixed with a part a week before it went into administration. Givenergy actually had better trustpilot ratings than almost all solar companies (none were good though with support).

Prior to going bust they had the worst ratings of any company in the three sectors they chose to be listed in and had been rated as such since late 2024. There was one company rated worse but it went bust in 2023.

GE were crap and deserved to go bust. End of story.

Our installer for my system was pretty good actually, we had been fucked over by Daylight Energy Ltd a couple years before, look them up. They took a lot of deposits for work and then the owner sacked everyone and left a lot of customers high and dry. Not to worry he’s employed with another company now at a managerial position.
Anyhow my experience with solar in total leaves a complete sour taste.

AnonymousHooman If your Gateway trips when going Off-Grid (ie Islanding), it may be that the type and/or rating of the Gateway RCDs needs to be changed. Mine came with 30mA Type AC RCDs. A decent electrician may be able to advise if your installer is incompetent.

Just wondered, I can see a Gen3 9.5 Battery for a decent price,. easy to plug in and change the dip switches to slave and master, its the other bits I'm unsure of, commissioning bla bla, or could I just plug it in etc.. and it would work?...

Keiron and co from Phillex did our install and I do think he knows the kit very well, even our AIO2 which is relatively new, so I think you could be confident asking him for hardware support if you need it. And so far, no signs of them going bust as far as I can tell.

My installer also West Country - Ecobubl in Warminster. Went bust despite being promoted on the Everything Electric YT channel. My install in May 2021 was excellent, but now out of warranty.

I reached out to them for a quote for my solar, to be installed on the south side of the garage roof, and got a quote for installation on the north side of my house.
I didn't know they'd gone bust, but not surprised if my experience is typical.

Ecobubl did our heat pump install, I was about to reach out to them about adding air conditioning components to that set up… guess I’ll look elsewhere now!
