My battery is not charging, when we have surplus solar, with scheduled charging, or for a grid event. I have run a diagnostic and there appears to be nothing wrong. I have updated firmware and returned to default settings but nothing works. Any suggestions?

OVOPV1036 throw away the givEnergy app and use something more simple like the BBC Basic Inverter app (Google it, various platforms) or RubikCube's Inverter Monitor (Andrew Miller).

What's a "grid event"? Does it discharge okay, either to cover consumption, or forced export ?

You could check that the charge power hasn't been set to 0. (On my system it would still charge at about 280W rather than being completely idle.)

Don't be too hasty to discard the Giv app. It's working as expected and once you get used to it, works fine.
Still needs the fast menu added but in some respects is an improvement. The paid version allows you to access the system away from home. Rubik's app requires some serious fiddling to achieve this. I think the BBC app can be accessed remotely. I think others will put me right if any of this is wrong.

Snap. For the first time (I think ever for me), my AIO SoC crashed from 31% all the way to the deadly 0% at 22:55 yesterday and did not start to charge as per its regular 00:00-05:00 time charge event this morning. Usually when it's drained, it hovers around 4% and charging resumes at 00:00 without issue.

I woke up early at 03:30 today (this heat!) to find battery at 0%, 0V not charging. Via the GE app I tried toggling the battery charging smart / not smart, the charging window and charge power settings, no avail.

Time to get out of bed!

No red lights on the unit itself, just a blinking green LED. On the "My inverters" dashboard list the AIO had the red icon "warning".

I toggled the charging slots, charging rate, and restarted the "inverter" / AIO using the Desktop, and thank goodness, the dashboard icon has gone from red "Warning" to grey "Lost" to green "Normal" and it's now showing that it's charging again. Soc jumped from 0 --> 33%, and 0 --> 320V as of 03:58.

Question in my mind - why?

I'd appreciate any tell tale signs people can suggest as to why this happens. I've tried to make sense of the logs but I can't spot what went wrong (see Gsheet link below).

Several things were unusual about yesterday:

  1. It was hot (local temperature reach 35*C by mid afternoon)
  2. 11:40 I was asked to shut down the inverter and AIO yesterday as part of a ASHP survey. DC off, AC off, AIO power down, G/w breakers off. A few minutes of to test the grid supply, check the 100A fuse, etc. Powered everything back in reverse order. All seemed good.
  3. 15:54 We experienced an unexpected powercut. At 15:58 I received notifications from UK Power Networks, our DNO. I think the DNO used an autocloser / rerouted power, as it was a brief outage for us, but others in the area didn't get power back for several hours. I wasn't at home, so unclear whether the AIO kicked: there must have been a brief break in supply to the house, as the oven clocks reset and our internet router power cycled.
  4. 19:00 There was an Axle grid event: the AIO discharged for an hour. Axle seemed slow this time to put back into Eco mode - the logs show that happening at 20:17 and a review at 20:48
  5. 21:51 I turned off my scheduled timed export 22:20-00:00 via the app as the battery was already low SoC post Axle
  6. 23:44 I turned back on my scheduled timed export via the app before going to bed

I've not been brave enough to update firmwares to the latest versions.

My AIO is running:

  • Inverter Firmware Version: D0.616-A0.616
  • Last Update Time: 2025-07-29 00:18:20
  • Battery Firmware Version: 12

My Gateway is running:

  • Inverter Firmware Version: A0.005
  • Last Update Time: 2024-04-12 15:22:12

Most grateful to anyone who can decipher what went wrong, and any remedial action I should take. e.g.

  • be brave and upgrade firmware?
  • force recalibration - is that possible without upgrading?
  • something else?

DD a grid event is where Axle energy take control of your system and export from your battery at specific times to meet excess grid demand - for which you get paid.

OVOPV1036 Okay... I asked since you had specifically said charging, but Axle is currently export only. I assume that means your battery is also not discharging - it is completely idle ? Does the inverter report any power? Eg when my system is paused it tends to report 28W. Only if I turn eco off does it go completely idle.

the emails from Axle after participating in an event do say something like "please check your inverter settings, as sometimes we are unable to access/reset them", or words to that effect
