Battery warranty

Hi All

I want to get some feedback from someone with more knowledge so I can take comfort that I've not been misled.

On my system, it says that the warranty on my battery is 5 years, although my installer says that as its been monitored centrally, it then has a 10 year warranty?
To be fair I'm not one for reading pages and pages of instructions and company blurb but is this accurate?

gordonm the warranty shown on there is your inverter warranty, which is 5 years unless you extended it to 10. Batteries have a 10 year warranty/or max import kWh figure depending on the size.

What's the general consensus about extending the warranty? I never do it on home purchases and wonder if its a sales ploy?

gordonm I haven't done this on my inverter, wasn't given the option by my installer. But as the inverter technically has the shortest warranty period it would probably be a good idea to make it the same length as the battery then you're covered. If I had the option now I would extend so it matches the battery warranty

I believe that you can extend the warranty at any point while the original warranty is still in force.

I never bothered extending the inverter* (although to be honest how mines now configured it's probably void anyway) but I guess you also have to consider in 6-7years time the possibility that Gen1 won't be made anymore & you'd get a nice new Gen2/3/4 or whatever. (Although equally GE could just keep a stash of dead ones to pull spares from so it's not guaranteed)

mrand31 thanks, just had a look but they want to charge for delivery at £10+vat! Might contact them directly to check, but for £200+vat doesn't seem a bad idea

Cdent Yabbut those online warranties are heavy and difficult to pack. 😀

gordonm All warranties are expected to make a profit so are stacked against the buyer. I would expect the design MTBF to be far higher than 10 years. Increase the cooling with a couple of cheap fans and you'll extend the life further.

It may be worth contacting your original installer, as they can potentially get the inverter warranty extension with a discount. So it depends on how much they then markup the price.

The kit is in the garage that has the CH boiler in there so dry and never freezing in the winter and as its on the north side of the house a comfortable temperature in the summer with the boiler not switched on so temperature reasonably temperate and stable all year round
I think I'm going to probably think about this towards the end of its first 5 years and get some more feedback then from older ones still going

How does the warranty on the inverters work? Looking at the battery 10 year warranty, its on a sliding scale so say after 5 years if it fails they only have to refund you say 50% of its value (or something thereabouts). I am guessing though they would just give you another similar battery as still probably cheaper than refunding you in cash unless you're closer to the end of your warranty period.
