How to get smart scheduler to charge my battery over night.

Reason I ask is that I have just signed up for the Axle short notice export scheme that only gives a couple of hours warning and have noticed that the Givenergy smart scheduler drains the battery overnight as presumably it is expecting to charge from solar during the day. The issue is that if Axle announce an early morning event, my battery will be empty.

How can I tell the smart scheduler to always charge from the grid when the Octopus rate is the cheapest ( ie 4am to 7am). I have set up the right tariff but it seems to prioritise the assumed solar generation over the low overnight rate.

Is there a way to tell it that I export any unused solar (for 12p) and top up overnight from the grid (9p)

I can do it manually, but that means I can't use the smart scheduler.

Sparky_Joe I can do it manually, but that means I can't use the smart scheduler.

What other features do you need from the smart scheduler?

I would like it to recognise that I have an export tariff and that its more cost effective to charge the battery from the grid than solar.

This would also mean users have a full battery if when Axle put on an event in the morning.

The way it currently works is that it assumes solar is the cheapest option (which it isn't) and Axle won't put on events in the morning (which they have done in the past)

Sparky_Joe if you turn off smart scheduling and do the charge manually, what do you lose?

Assuming your inverter has multiple charge timer slots, does the smart scheduler just stick to one? If you put a charge event into one of the others, does it override smart scheduler.

Yes but i have gen1 ge inverter with only one charge slot. So yes I can force it to charge overnight, but lose the benefits of the smart scheduler.

Given the partnership between GE and Axle, I would have thought this could be a bigger issue than just me

Sparky_Joe I have set up the right tariff

Does it insist on looking up tariff details, or can you put in your own prices for each slot?

  • yes, looks like you can. Well, for import at least - I couldn't immediately see where to set export. So what if you just tell it that import is 1p between 4am and 7am ? If that doesn't persuade it to import from grid, not sure anything will.

I guess another question to ask... do you miss out on non-event days if you adjust things on the off-chance that Axle has an event ? ie is it worth losing X per non-event day to gain Y on occassional event days ?
