Battery clicks then turns off?

My app is showing the battery’s cannot be seen by my inverter and the main battery will not turn on it clicks a few times and then shuts down.
I have looked in the community and found some one who had the issue (See geoffrey's post below)

I have raised a call and have a ticket number but not heard anything back have also phone and cant get passed there automated AI that cant transfer a call. I am finding there support very poor.

It sounds very much like the inverter BMS Board, I had the same happen to mine.

If you turn the power breaker off that feeds the battery, its either on the side of the battery or a separate unit (depends on the battery size)

Turn it off, then try turning the battery on, and if it stays on, but with the power breaker on the battery clicks and powers off, then its the inverter that has failed.

Will have to be replaced by GivEnergy under warranty."

GivEnergy have gone into administration. I do not know who you have raised a ticket with and who you expect to help you.
GivEnergy support will be very poor - this is nobody there

oh wow that's not good news, I still have 6 years warranty would that still be valid?

DAVIESPO Try reaching out to your installer, unless they have also gone bust. They are the ones who you have the contract with. I presume they chose GE as their supplier.

That's correct, I have dropped them an email to see what they can do, they weren't the best to be fair but even if they can help source a replacement it would help.

Well they were as helpful as I expected! cant repair not prepared to have a go at anything expect quote for a complete replacment.

I assume that this is expected, and I am going to have to replace the whole system before its even paid for itself?

Remember your installer is still on the hook for 6 years from install (consumer rights act 2015), and failing that if you used a credit card, Section 75 can help.

Can they get you another battery if your inverter is working OK
Another battery will not have a warranty, but the warranty you have now is worthless unless as Maxwell says "you asked for a system and your installer chose/supplied GivEnergy kit", then they may be on the hook.
How did you pay, you have have some recourse there

wrighar didn't use a credit card! but I will read up on the consumer rights act 2015, really disappointed with the installer, they just want to make more money out of a situation.

DAVIESPO You haven't said what kit you acutally have but there are new and unused batteries in the marketplace. After the demise of givEnergy they have been considered plug and play. You may be able to replace the battery yourself. I recently upgraded my system with an additional battery by simply replacing the original Gen2 battery with a Gen 3 and then piggybacking the old battery as a slave to the new one. The only, slightly, skilled bit was setting the dip switches to set master/slave and connecting the ground cables which I made up from 10mm earth cable and crimped lugs but you can do this without the lugs if you don't have a crimper.

I had assumed that the solar panels would be a universal component of the overall solution.

The fault is with the inverter, specifically the BMS board. The battery operates correctly when powered up and isolated from the inverter, which suggests the issue is confined to the inverter itself.

I did ask about replacing just the inverter, as there are still plenty of suppliers selling new units, but they were not interested in that option. Realistically, it is likely only a part costing a few hundred pounds to get the system running again. However, if replacement parts cannot be sourced, or if there is nobody willing to install a replacement inverter, then the entire system would need to be replaced, which is likely to cost £4,500 or more.

I have the Hybrid 5000 Inverter and 8.2kWh Battery, I have seen the inverters for sale anything from £500 to a £1000, I was wondering if it was a possibility to take a punt on buying a unit and switching it out

Assuming it's a gen 1 hybrid or AC3, Buy a second hand one off eBay (one that has been used and therefore commissioned)
Install it, remove the dongle it came with, shove your dongle in it and the portal will think it's your old one again.

DAVIESPO With the inverter you need to careful to swap connections like for like and get a copy of the installation manual as there are probably torque recommendations for all the screw terminals which you should implement. TBH, if I was swapping out an inverter I would be inclined to use a qualified person to do it for me. Adding/Swapping batteries is straightforward but with the inverter you have both the solar DC and home/grid AC to worry about. Note, hoggy's point about the dongle.

Cheers, getting a qualified person to help would be my approach also!! I have sent a strongly worded email back to the installers regarding the consumer rights act 2015, lets see what they have to say.

Again, this fail can be in two places and look the same

1. Battery Buck boost board in the inverter fails (short circuit mosfet). Can test that with resistance between the battery pins in the inverter

2. Battery BMS board fails (usually the soft start part)

these both manifest as a clicking followed by a red battery light.

I've had both, first required a replacement inverter, second I repaired myself (see posts titled 'bugger')

which battery do you have??
