With Battery Reserve set to below 20%, battery always charges up to 20% - why ?
(via Inverter Settings/Battery Options/Operating Range)
I want no battery charge (for FIT payment reasons) so want to use the battery to lowest reasonable range to maximise what I can store and use from the battery via solar charge.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
I can't work out what in the system is over-riding the Operating Range setting.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks @SteveCook. I changed the reserve to 18% and whilst this changed in General/Percentage Limits it didn't change on CHarge/Discharge Schedules, Charge 1 Settings (AC Charge 1 Upper SOC Limit %) so I'll try changed the latter to 18% and check it out tomorrow.
Hmm, I just tried to change the Charge 1 setting to 18%, refeshed and it changed it back to 20% ! I can't see to force it to 18%.
I just managed to change it. There is an arrow that appears to the RHS of the box and I had to press that rather than do a refresh in te box to the left. Anyway we'll see what happens. Thanks.
@SteveCook, Unfortunately that change didn't work.
At 23.30 the battery started charging from the grid from 18% to 20%.
On the inverter data page TBat stayed at 18, SOC% went up to 20. No idea what TBat is. Something must be forcing it up to 20%, but what ?
Yes, I am a Premium user. Would not want to lose access to all this data !
Hi - I only had one timed charge set up 23.30 to 05.30 to charge to 18% (or whatever I set it to) to take advantage of the lower rate Octopus rates overnight for household electricity needs.
So I'd expect the only command at 23.30 to be the timed charge which I'd have thought would be to charge from grid to whatever I set (i.e. 18%, ideally I want to get it to 4% which seems to be the minimum allowed to keep a reserve in the system).
I don't know how to interrogate the system any further. I'm not sure how to look at inverter history, other than use the "My Inverter" tab on the page. Or Remote Control history. If there is a higher level setting in the system that over-rides my settings I don't know how to access it. I've asked Giv Support about this before but they couldn't get to the bottom of it. Last time I asked their help desk was getting revamped due to the liquidation so I gave up till now.
Look at your remote control history and see what instructions are being issued and at what time and where they come from.

I had a look but it's only changes that I've made that are showing which includes server/user commands and read/write. Me trying to manage the battery about the 20% mark and doing my tests the last couple of days to see the impact of the changes. I'm baffled, and curious as to what's causing this. I know that generation is dropping off now so in some ways "losing" 20% of my usable battery capacity over the winter because I have to keep the reserve at 20% isn't going to be that inmpactful but I'd just like to understand what is going on. I'm not clear whether the setting is being changed to 20%, or if it's disregarding a lower value and always charging to 20% anyway. I thought it was the former, but maybe that was a different thread. If the latter: yeah, I think mine does/did that too, when I was experimenting with something. I was looking for ways to pause the battery, and charging with a low target seemed to always charge to at least 20%.
May depend on the firmware version, so I don't thinkinr did that originally.
What is the net effect you wish to achieve? Run from grid rather than battery overnight, without charging battery?
What is generating all the changes from the app? Have you set something on your phone?
Its probably the cut-off value on the portal which is set to 20%. That would explain the inverter charging to that level regardless of what reserve value is set to.
That's a very high minimum charge. Do you have a timed charge setup by any chance? Maybe an overnight one?
Our has minimum set to 4% plus timed charge on cheap EV rate midnight-4am that charges to 40% and discharges in the day.
This means it only charges when there's under 50%. left by midnight then charges to 40% which makes sure we have enough left over on darker days.
