hi all - I was hoping to add another battery to my givenergy system (installed 2023 by Eon). Now that Givenergy have folded am I unable to add one?? It's very confusing and Eon have been no help at all which is so disappointing. I have tried to get some advice from them and nothing - not even a recognition that the so called 10 year warranty of my products is no longer valid.

We are hoping to add a heat pump to our set up but would like a battery with it but advice has been that we need to do that separate to the heat pump installer.

thanks for any advice
from a feeling a bit miffed and vulnerable givenery/eon abandoned customer!

yb1 If you are in any way confident at DIY you can do this yourself. Batteries piggy back so all you need to do is:

  • Purchase the right battery to battery cable (Gen 1 cables are different to gen 2/3) - Warning there appear to be more Gen3 batteries in the market than gen 2/3 cables.
  • Install the battery securely (if you buy new there's a guide in the box).
  • Power everything off and check it's safe
  • Connect the new battery to the old using the correct cable
  • Add a chassis earth cable - again connecting between the two batterys - your original battery will already be earthed to the inverter. I made one up using 6mm earth cable.
  • Set the DIP switches so one battery is master and one slave (guidence states that the newer or larger battery should be master although I didn't bother and it's never been a problem.
  • Fire everything up.
  • Your BMS will recognise the new battery (although some have said this is not immediate).
  • If the two batteries SOC are far apart schedule a Calibration to maximise SOC and balance the batteries.

In my case I added a gen3 9.5 to an existing AC3 Gen2 9.5 and it was all up and running in less than an hour. The hardest bit was moving the battery and geting in the right place for mounting - I'm 68 and they are heavy...

Or course you should be aware that any battery you buy now is not warranted so you do this at your own risk. The price I paid for my extra battery proved well worth the risk.

I was wondering this after seeing the Eco-Worthy 16kWh battery for £1800. Seems a bargain, and would really help in winter now that I have a heat pump.

Edit - just found an even cheaper one, about £1300 with discount codes.

Are these alternative batteries compatible with the GE Inverters?

Yes that is the question, firstly, does the data cable need to be "daisy-chained" to all batteries, and if so, do they use the same connectors and talk the same language.
