I had a givenergy charger installed yesterday in preparation for the Mrs getting an EV, I've got the charger running off Giv Ocpp through homeassistant and that side worked flawlessly when plugged into my mates van that fitted it.
The EV has its own CT clamp, both the CT clamps have been placed where just about every diagram I can find tells you to but the inverter still detected the load demand from the EV charger and started draining the batteries.

How do I stop the batteries going to the EV?

I know I can set up software side to pause the batteries if the charger is active through homeassistant but that will also put the house onto the grid aswell.

I don't want it connected to givenergy and I'm not paying the cloud fees so I can't go that route.

The install manual shows the charger and inverter linked via modbus instead of using a CT clamp for the charger but there's a comment saying coming soon..... Did it ever get implemented?

The short answer is you can't as the EV Charger is seen as house load, If you don't want this to happen you need to commission an Electrician to wire your EV charger before your consumer unit using Henley Blocks and then the charger will be hidden from the house load. As you pointed out you can pause discharge your batteries. I found the easiest way was to schedule a house battery charge at at a reduced charge rate at the same time as charging the EV.

That is how it is wired, and it still diacharges
Street fuse to Henley block has ev charger ct clamp on
Henley block to consumer unit has solar CT clamp on

From what I can find out through digging around the internet, all the givenergy software side does is pause battery discharge so I should be able to come up with something better through homeassistant

Ideally you have cheap grid power when the car is charging, so running the house from grid is fine.

I understood that you got free cloud access if you have the giv charger, since it didn't have local access.

I tried it through the official app before I had it installed (I had it booted up from a 13amp plug just to play with) and came up against the first block.... It was still registered to the previous owner..... But true to their incompetence, all you have to do is go on the desktop cloud, try to register a new charger to your account and keep changing digits to find a free serial number, you can then reset the EV, connect to it's setup wifi and the serial number is open for you to edit.Once I was in for any of the settings it loaded up the premium subscription page so I just reset it again and set it up to run givocpp

It looks like a home assistant automation will be my answer and look into the EV add on OVO are offering me in the app

I'm in the same situation and everyone I've spoken to has just said it needs a premium subscription. I've just learned to live with the batteries discharging - sometimes they do it quickly, sometimes they tick over at 200W and there's no uniformity to how quickly they'll discharge during EV charging.
I use OVO's charge app to charge at lower rates and do it when the batteries are already low

From the all digging around the internet I've done over the past week it looks like all the premium subscription does it pause the batteries. This is a simple automation to setup in homeassistant if you've got it.
If not I'd look it to it purely to get away from givenergy and have full control of everything

I've looked at the OVO add on and the givenergy EVC isn't listed as compatible?

I don’t have a Premium account but the GivEnergy app still allows full control of their EV charger eg you can set a schedule and choose Grid or Solar etc. I just have a schedule set to tie in with Intelligent Octopus Go core hours of 23:30 to 05:30. If Octopus try to schedule some charging slots out side of those hours then GivEnergy schedule over rides those. I set the house battery to charge in the same hours and export all solar that isn’t used by the house or battery topping up ie Eco setting.

Andrewz61 I don’t have home assistant but will have a look and see what’s involved, thanks
